She did not believe in wasting money, nor being ripped off by the funeral industry and she taught me the same. The enameled image really captures my attention immediately when I look at this. It's a high-gloss topcoat (clearcoat) over the enameling, with a very crisp and clear image. Lovely piece with great brass/gold-ish colored accent bands, one just below the lid, and one at the base, which itself has felt on the bottom. Body of the unit is aluminum (probably a slight alloy to deter oxidization in the threads) which is light but strong - it's a thick aluminum, and it's cast - you can tell from the marks on the inside from the mold. Inside is sprayed in a more flat (slightly satin, mostly flat) dark color so that your loved one's cremains, if not in an internal bag, won't penetrate or interact with the metal, nor stick to it. Everything looks nicely made. Threads are machined and the lid fits tightly. Not water-tight, so you wouldn't immerse it (not sure why you'd want to) but if, say, the ceiling drips on it in a severe storm, or if somebody spilled a huge beverage over it, then the contents wouldn't get wet. It's a fairly solid closure, but not gasketed - just metal on metal. I'm happy with all aspects of this lovely urn, and the protective velvet-ish bag is a nice extra. I think this is an excellent value, especially as compared to something similar from a funeral home - probably 80% cost savings there. So I do indeed highly recommend this lovely resting place for a loved one.

This is gorgeous! The urn is heavy (but not too heavy) and it feels super expensive. The design is beautiful and the top screws on securely so your loved one won't be disturbed. I can't say enough good things about the design, though. The hummingbird is beautiful and the cosmos are stunning, but the color of the purple is really so striking that it's hard to take your eyes off it. It's beautiful.

This urn is absolutely beautiful! It appears to be made of a thin pottery material that is finished with the painting on the outside and unfinished on the inside. Therefore, I'm thinking It is a "set-in" rather than a "screw-in" semi-loosely fitted lid with no seal. I imagine we will need to seal it in someway once the ashes are in the urn. Because it appears rather large, my husband is questioning if it will fit in the niche at the mausoleum. Yet, another thing to investigate. Regardless, it is beautiful for display and I highly recommend this urn.
