Bought this to hold my art supplies, miscellaneous office supplies, and my sewing machine. This definitely gets the job done! My sewing machine is one of those old 80's metal behemoths. Lesser shelves have bowed beneath its mighty weight, but not this one. This bookcase doesn't shake, has thick shelving slats that down bend under pressure, and it has a nice aesthetic. Assembly was fairly easy if you've ever put furniture together. One word of caution, make sure the holes on the vertical supports are on the same side when building the case. Only one side of each support has these holes, but the directions doesn't draw attention to that fact until a couple of steps AFTER you've installed them. The holes are for the cross beams along the back of the case. If you don't put them all facing the same way, you will have to go back and correct it. Though the shelf is sturdy enough without the crossbeams, the extra structure is great if you plan on loading this shelf down. ... show more

We bought a larger double wide bookshelf from this company so when we put that together and loaded it up, we knew we wanted the smaller one for a console table. It's strong, easy to put together, and the holes line up like they're supposed to. One day, I might updrade the shelves to real wood so I can custom stain them once I feel like actually doing it. The metal frame would support it perfectly fine but in the mean time, the shelves included are quite serviceable. My cats run across it a lot and I've yet to see a scratch in the finish (we've had it for a little under a month) so that's saying a lot because my cats like to tear through the house at night. Good looking bookshelf. It's not made of the best material - sort of that fake light wood. Even the metal is pretty light. For the money it's pretty much what you'd expect. It looks really good. The reason why I gave it 4 stars is because on one of the shelves the screws were not lined properly with the metal stand - led to a ton of frustration trying to assemble. What could have been a 20 minute job turned into a 90 minute assembly. ... show more

I ordered this product in December and it arrived very late because of Fed Ex. At one point I had given up and the seller refunded my purchase price. Then, of course Fed Ex delivered it. I love this unit. It was really easy to put together and houses everything I needed it to house. I teach from home these day and have so many reference books and now they are organized per class and I can easily find everything. I appreciate the seller's flexibility and understanding about the endless frustrations I had with the FedEx delivery system.
