This is my second pair of Irish Setter SoftPaws, so that should tell you something. My first pair wasn’t even new, I bought them used off eBay. I wore those for two solid years before the sole finally popped off. At first, I thought it was a bad shoe, but when I looked closer, I realized they had been resoled before I ever owned them. Those shoes easily had three or four years of wear on them before I put my two years into them. That’s impressive. Once you break these in, they fit beautifully. You can even slide your feet in and out without fully unlacing them, as long as you keep the laces a little loose. They’re waterproof, they’re handsome, and they dress up or down without any effort, jeans, chinos, casual, semi-dress, whatever. When it was time to replace my old pair, I didn’t hesitate. I bought a wide size this time because my first pair had already been broken in when I got them, and I figured a fresh pair might take a little more work. Glad I did, they’re comfortable right out of the box. Irish Setter SoftPaws are just solid, dependable shoes. Durable, versatile, and honestly worth buying twice.

I have had these shoes for four months and I am very impressed with their quality. I wear them 5 days a week, 8-10 hours per day. For comfort, style, durability, and quality I have no complaints. I am a heavier guy (275 lbs) so a lot of shoes wear out quick for me. These have held up better than any pair I have owned. They are definitely worth the $125 I paid. However, there are two issues that I had with them: 1) The size runs small. I have worn a 10.5 since I was 17 years old in every boot and shoe I have owned. A 10.5 was painful; felt like my foot was in a vice. I returned them and tried an 11 D and they worked great. 2) The shoes stings could be better. After 4 months the lace on the right side broke and one on the left was beginning to split. Not a big deal, but I would expect for such a high quality shoe and higher price that the shoe lace be top quality also. Follow Up July, 2017: Still love this shoe. I have had them for about 18 months and they still look great. The leather has held up well and I have only done the minimal upkeep. The soles are showing wear so I will probably have them resoled soon. I am a bigger guy at 270 lbs so my shoes typically wear out within a year. These have held up remarkably and still have a lot of life left. Best shoe I have ever owned.

I have been going through shoes every six months or so with other brands. I'm giving these a try for the first one time and time will tell if they last. I will come back after wearing them for several months to give an update. These shoes are made by Red Wing in China as most shoes are. My first impressions are good. I buy shoes a half size larger and put gel or foam inserts inside. This makes any shoes much more comfortable. I would recommend getting a half size larger regardless - they run a little small. Brand shoes can very in size with the fit. I ordered 10.5 and fits perfectly with an insert. Also, the fit is also good without insert. The uppers are all leather and double stitched on the seams. That is a big plus. I conditioned the leather with Leather Honey and want these to last. They are comfortable and light. Cons - back part of the shoe does not grab my upper heal like must of my other shoes. I prefer more support under my heal and arch. Inserts help with that.

I have been wearing these Irish Setter shoes for about a year. They took a long time to break in but they were still comfortable during that time. I've walked up to four miles, at 4 mph, on concrete wearing these shoes and my feet and joints felt great. The Soft Paw shoes are a great value. After 20+ years wearing over priced Track II shoes my new daily drivers are the Irish Setter Soft Paw.

These are the most uncomfortable shoes I've ever purchased. The leather is quite stiff--unreasonably stiff, and the tongue grinds painfully into the top of my ankle. I'm very disappointed in them. Bought a pair of the same shoes around 5 years ago and was very pleased with them. Right out of the box the old pair was comfortable and hardly needed any break in at all. The new pair I just got...totally different story. The leather doesn't look or feel like the same quality of the old ones...just looks and feels cheaper and way stiffer. I've been loyal to Red Wing boots and Irish Setter shoes since I was around 18 years old. I'm 53 now. I always loved Red Wings for their fit and comfort. Red Wing and Irish Setter aren't the same anymore. The quality and fit just aren't there anymore. The last pair of Red Wing boots I bought wasn't nearly as comfortable as the other several pairs I've owned over the years. The old style I loved was discontinued and the closest match to that model left me disappointed as well. They were stiffer and and the leather was inferior to the other pairs that I'd been happy with for decades. If you're listening Red Wing and Irish Setter, I've bought my last pair from you.

I’ve had my pair for a month wearing them every day, I’m retired so they’re not work boots but yard work, walking the dog on streets and dirt roads, and general daily wear. I find the leather scuffs easily and for my comfort, they are too stiff so I can’t wear them anymore. $150 wasted, however they seem to be well built, they shed water very well and are mostly comfortable- just not for me but maybe I got a bad pair.
