  • Awesome Boots
Size: 10.5 Wide Color: Brown
These are my second pair of elk trackers. They are a fantastic boot. Fit true to size, warm and comfortable right of the box.

  • Excelent!
Size: 13 Wide Color: Brown
13W. Perfect fit. No crunched toes or sliding forward foot. No heel slip. No width crunch. Comfort is litterly UNBELEIVABLE. Wore inside, 75 degrees, for 15 minutes walking. Feet stayed a comfortable temp. Went outside in minus 10 degree for one hour. Feet stayed same temp. That's impressive. Very little break in. So worth the money. I've spent so much money trying to get boots that fit and don't hurt, the price for these is so worth it. I'm 65 so I'd say these are lifetime boots for me. These are like my feet are still home in my fleece slippers by the fire. I am so impressed and happy. Happy birthday and Christmas to me. I also bought the 10" uninsulated Irish Setter elk trackers too. I say the same about them too. Excelent. Everything Red Wing, Irish Setter and the reviewers say about these boots is true. ... show more

  • Got them to wear in a frozen food processing environment
I drive a forklift in a frozen food processing facility. My work environment ranges from 55 degrees to minus 25 degrees...80% of my day is spent in areas that range between 36 and minus 10. I love Red Wing boots and wore them for years before taking the forklift job. On a forklift, though, I don’t walk around or do as much physical labor as I had been doing and the Red Wing brand doesn’t offer a model with the amount of insulation I need. But Red Wing’s Irish Setter brand offers models with much more insulation. I went with the 860 Elk Tracker because it’s leather, can be re-soled, and it’s price point is similar to other brands of freezer specific boots which can not be re-soled when the soles wear out. They have lasted me almost four years now. My Red Wing size is 8.5D so, to account for the thickness of the insulation, I ordered the Elk Tracker 860 in size 9D. The fit was a tad snug for the first week or so but the insulation compacted somewhat (as expected) and the fit has been perfect since then. I have dropped pallets on them, scuffed them against pallets and metal storage racks while walking around, and the leather has held up well to the rigors of a work environment. Their weakness in my work environment is the soles. The Elk Tracker 860 is made for tromping around in the woods, not working on concrete. They wear out quicker when used “off label” the way I use them...but I expected that. After a year and a half, I had to have them re-soled. I took them to my local Red Wing dealer and he sent them to the Red Wing factory in Minnesota be re-soled. That was in October of 2018 and cost me $90. It gave my boots a second life. The other drawback for work use is that they don’t grip smooth, wet floors (i.e.: restroom floors) well. But again, they are made for the woods. I have slipped but have never fallen. These are good looking, durable boots that keep your feet warm, even when worn for a purpose they weren’t designed for and I can’t recommend them enough. ... show more

  • Looking Good so far.
The boots are comfortable right out of the box walking on flat land to the park. I walk three wild and wooly puppies about four miles a day. I've done this since I have bought the boots. Surprising the D width on my size 14's seem O.K. on the flats. After two weeks of walking they are working out fine. I'm tickled that the break-in of the boots was without pain. I love the last three big metal shoe string holders on the Irish Setter line. Oh how I hate those smaller metal clips that keep breaking on other red wing shoes. My foot is a 14 B narrow. I have no idea how I will do in the national forest hunting Elk this November when I walk straight up Hog Backs and ridges like Green Ridge. I will find out how much my feet slide around in the boots on those straight up trips in November. I will either fix that with huge fat socks or maybe a insole from some company. Only time will tell when I go hunting. My feet have stayed warm and dry through the last two blizzards so we're good there. I'm withholding the fifth star until I'm finished Elk hunting November 23 through December 1, 2013, that will tell the tale. I have another pair of Irish Setters that are 600 grams of insulation that I need to send back to the factory for new soles. They have been terrific for the last five years. I have worn the sole down so much little holes showed up in the middle of the sole just under the toe area. A lot of wear. The rest of these boots are fine and with new soles will be great backups to these new boots I bought. I put insoles in my old boots to walk in the woods. It worked out fine. My old Irish Setters were great for hunting and I hope for the same result with these new boots. Oh yes, the new boots have scent block, very important for Elk hunting. ... show more
