This corkscrew has the screw centered along a perpendicular axis. The result is that the cork is entered perpendicularly into the top surface of the cork. This makes the entry of the screw into the cork clean and straight with no destruction of the cork. Other corkscrews have screws which are off-centered and are formed like a curlicue with the point stopping at angle to the cork surface. This wine open works great but if you like to collect a nice clean cork, this one is too rough. It sometimes breaks the cork and leave a big gap. Not a big deal though.

This sturdy cork screw (with an auger instead of "cork screw") is well-made, easy to use, and (if I don't lose it) probably the last wine bottle opener I'll ever have to buy. It merits a rare five stars from me.

very well-engineered. The mechanics are so smooth that it uncorks bottles easily - much more so than our old one. We accidentally through away our old cork screw and the one we got at the local store felt really flimsy and did not work well at all. Very pleased with this one.

It looks and feels sturdy. BUT. Corkscrews with the curly que bits work better. This one crushes the top of the cork. Also, the screw part needs to be about 1/4" longer to work properly.
