I have some background in software development and electronics, and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience with this kit! With a gentle introduction you can see results fast, no prior knowledge is needed. My only caveat is that towards the end of the course in particular, you tend to learn less about the background of both certain components, as well as the coding aspect, since much is hidden in libraries. The instructions prompt you to basically copy-paste the code and just wire according to a picture. While it encourages the user to play around frequently, you'll have to do some more research if you have more complex projects in mind, or want to transfer the new knowledge to different hardware (sensors etc) or for example a Raspberry Pi. However, as an introduction to get someone excited about those topics, it certainly does a good job. ... show more

As a parent that uses parental controls, this was a difficult situation. It requires access to the parental gmail or Apple account. This is especially important if you like to keep your accounts secure from kids who may or may not try to purchase things on your account. That is the biggest downfall of this. I got this kit to do with my son (7) and we had a blast. The diagrams can sometimes be challenging to follow, and the instructional videos found online can be a little bland/dry at times, but we were still able to follow along just fine even though he wasn't the recommended age. The way it was presented with a storyline and how it is used to break up the lessons day by day was a great touch in our opinion. ... show more

Fun brain games to stay sharp. Not sure how much of this knowledge is going to translate into using for other projects yet… and I’m not really sure which coding language I’m actually learning— but hey for a brain game and just a STEM activity in general is really fun. This is an excellent kit to learn the basics of electronics, wiring, Arduino and coding. It is a fun premise that goes through everything very thoroughly. It's a classroom experience without the boredom of a classroom. If you are looking at kits, get this one!

Although this is pretty much just an arduino kit, I do enjoy how they made a story line to connect the different projects.

The media could not be loaded. As an avid electronics and robotics hobbyist I recently had a younger family member asked me for a good starter kit to help get into the field of robotics and engineering. Not only does this kit make learning Arduino, coding, and electronics engineering fun... But it provides a very cool narrative to keep them involved and interested via gamification. The whole thing is set up like an adventure to fix your space ship. This will now be my go to holiday present this Christmas for any friends with kids! Great kit. ... show more
