  • Very good value
I like the mill. The fit and finish is very good for this type of import machine. Instructions manual leaves out a few key points, but mostly it’s just fine for setting it up and making some chips.

  • Overall good mill with a few minor complaints.
Size: R8
The Good: The shipping was well packed in a wood crate and very secure. Everything was safely locked down and nothing could easily be damaged. The mill itself has surprisingly good tolerance. I threw on the dial indicators to check how much out of alignment the axis were and they were pretty much dead on for both X and Y. I recommend cleaning the ways and re-oiling them, there seems to be a lot of black soot from the packing oil they used. The Bad: The Z axis has a precision dial and a quill style. If you lock the quill, it allows the precise use of the dial for the digital caliper built it. If you buy a DRO for this machine, I recommend buying a 4-axis DRO. You can add the two linear scale to both the main Z axis as well as the precision dial, and have the DRO automatically sum the two Z values together. The R8 spindle uses a metric threaded drawbar. This is both good and bad, because there's a lot of cheap Chinese tools in metric, however, if you are buying in the States, most R8 tooling will be threaded with 7/16-20 UNF. My solution is to buy a Bridgeport drawbar and a threading die (see picture). Chop the drawbar down to size so that the length of the bar is the same as the stock drawbar. The second thing is you can use an actual 19mm socket wrench instead of the tiny oddly shaped 10mm square nut that is impossible to find a wrench for. I had to fabricate my own. According to the manual, the spindle normally should have two flat machined faces to allow you to lock the spindle with a wrench while tightening the drawbar, however, it appears to only have a pin hole which requires a hook spanner. Not sure why the manual differs from the actual product. Firstly, the hook spanner is NOT included for some odd reason. I had to buy one myself (search Hook Spanner 19-51mm). Overall opinion: This is a great mill so far, even with the minor road bumps I came across. I really wish they included the hook spanner and an American threaded drawbar (or at least an option). The overall tolerances look very good and aside from some minor issues with the Z axis, I would definitely recommend this to a hobbyist looking for their first mini mill. ... show more

  • Can't find parts
Size: R8
For the money this is a nice DIY shop milling machine. However if you run for extended time the motor won't hold up and trying to find a replacement will lead you nowhere. I suggest spending a little more and buy one from a dealer located within the USA.

  • Can't Find a Power Feed to fit the table
Size: R8
The mill works ok, I'll know more as I use it. I'll give a review for the mill down the road. I Can't find a power feed to fit the table. Also, a Magnetic DRO is going to be a challenge to find and to fit the mill as well. Does this seller have these parts ?

  • best MINI milling machine i've had
Size: MT3
This mill is well made in terms of being solid and durable. Cuts are smooth like butter and all that good jaz. How ever there are few small problems that you will have to address. #1 Z axis built in DRO (small digital caliper basically) is inaccurate. #2 Quill (Piston/plunger mechanism how ever you want to callit) is not very stable. It wiggles somewhat, making Z axis movement somewhere dificult to dial in. #3 there are some thrust bearings missing from factory (for handles) so you might have to order one or two. #4 THE BIGGEST problem with this mill is that if you order R8 collet configuration, the rod has a very strange pitch that does not work with standard R8 collets. You gonna have to fix that somehow or you gonna have to ask the seller to make 100% sure that they include a rod that will fit standard R8 collets. If you have an R8 collet, tell them the pitch of the thread to make sure it will fit. #5 Dialing Z axis can be tricky. Entire head wants to drop due to the way its designed. #6 DRO installation for Z axis is a tricky decision to make. You can try to attach DRO to the Quill or to the head. I my self attached to the quill but as i said before, quill is not very stable so its tricky to get exact Z axis position.. With that said, the adition of the quill is a good and a bad thing at same time. Good because it allows you to drill down quickly and super easily. Bad is because accuracy is drastically lower because of that. With all those bad things above, this mill is still very well made and its by far the best option out there. ... show more
