  • Great Book
Format: Paperback
The Illustrated Geneva Bible 1560 Edition with Apocrypha is a beautifully crafted treasure for anyone who loves biblical history. The large print makes this classic far more accessible than older reproductions, and the original illustrations and maps bring the text to life in a way that feels both authentic and deeply enriching. What I appreciated most is the attention to detail. The 1560 orthography is preserved, yet the annotations help modern readers understand the historical context without getting lost. It feels like holding a piece of the Reformation era in your hands, but with the clarity needed to study and enjoy it today. If you’re passionate about Scripture, church history, or collectible editions of the Bible, this is an impressive and meaningful volume to add to your library. ... show more

  • A valiant publishing effort BUT, significant proofreading failures exist here.
Format: Paperback
This is a cursory comparison of the Sacred Quill Publishing 1560 Geneva Bible edition and the Hendrickson facsimile edition using "fine line photography." The Sacred Quill edition is a reprint, not a photographic reproduction. Obviously, this presents difficult challenges for Sacred Quill regarding proofreading which, admittedly, would be a challenging and arduous task. While I commend Sacred Quill on the very pleasant print in terms of size and the transmogrification of the "long s," of Middle English, which represents the modern "s," called a "short s," and the clear readability of the text, if you carefully note the photographs, there are spelling variations, errors really, which simply should never have occurred. Even within a few verses, "Marie," (the spelling for Jesus' mother's name in Middle English) is, at one point at least, rendered "Mary." So, both "Marie" and "Mary" appear in the same column to refer to the same person. Look, this is the "sacred text," and surely the company, with a name like Sacred Quill, realizes this. In Luke 2: 18, "shepherds" in the Hendrickson photographic facsimile (although with the "long s" which looks like an "f)," is rendered as "shepheards" in the Sacred Quill Bible. And this is merely a comparison of only 7 verses. It is hard to imagine that I would not discover similar errors in the entirety of the Biblical texts, although I don't quite have time for that kind of effort in comparison. I don't think I'm being excessively harsh with a 3 star review. I think if you are going to take a run at publishing a sacred text, it would really be good for you to "dot all your i's and cross all your t's" so to speak. The light weight of the paperback is nice for carrying and the binding appears to be well made and sturdy. I really wanted to love the Sacred Publishing Bible but, as someone who has done some editing within newspaper journalism, I can't view such proofreading errors as anything other than sloppy, if not unprofessional. I would love to see Sacred Publishing print an updated edition where all these spelling variations, or errors, are corrected. If I were confident that all the errors were corrected, I would most happily purchase the new edition. ... show more
