Made from a thick gauge stainless steel so it feels durable. Black coating matches my Fellow grinder. The ring collar is adjustable. What more could you ask for!

My wife just got her first espresso machine and so we've been stocking up on all the tools. We're no pros yet so my review is what it is, but this particular accessory seems nicely made and finished. However, I just can't quite wrap my head around how this, essentially a cup, should need to be $35. But many of them were in a similar range so I guess they're gonna charge what people are gonna pay. Worst case you could take out a would be purse thief with it like Crocodile Dundee if you don't have a can of soup handy. In any event, as solid metal cups go this one seems quite nice. I noticed no burs or uneven paint or edges etc, and it seated nicely into cup-end of the espresso handle. No complaints, other than thinking it should be cheaper. ... show more

I have been making cappuccinos for 25 years. I even roast my own coffee. I make a pretty good cup, but feel that there is always room for improvement. So, I've decided to experiment with some of the latest tools in hopes that my cappuccinos will get even better. I got this dosing cup thinking that it would improve the distribution of coffee before tamping. It doesn't actually fit my current grinder very well. Hopefully it will work better with a new one I have on order. This cup is nicely made with a good finish and it is very solid. I opted for the black finish. On the bottom of the cup there is a little label that attempts to illustrate the grain size for various coffee styles. If I had to do over, I would go for the silver finish because it would be easier to see the coffee in the bottom of the cup. As far as the weight, it seems unnecessarily heavy to me. I am disappointed in how it works. This is not a critique of this particular item but of the dosing cup concept. I thought that when you inverted the cup and porta filter, the coffee would fall more or less uniformly into the basket. Not so. It is heavily loaded on what would be the low side as you uprighted the port filter. That means I still have to get out the distributor or the wire tool to level the grounds. With that being said, I think I'm going to use a dosing funnel and wires. And, I don't see where the label on the bottom would be of much practical use. I am pretty stingy with my five star ratings, but that's what I'm going to give this item. I can't really find anything about it to criticize and it is very nicely made. ... show more

The media could not be loaded. It seems like we have seen a rapid evolution of the tools used to brew coffee over the last few years. A dosing cup is a pretty simple thing but it is pretty useful for getting all your carefully weighed grounds into that basket. For the last couple of years, I have been thinking I would need to buy a $3000 milling machine to make my own but recently we have started seeing them show up on the market. This one is made with quality aluminum and has a beautiful anodized finish. It feels solid in the hand and has a nice weight that makes it feel like a quality cup. It is made of 2 pieces. The ring around the top is milled separately and then tapped to screw on. This is pretty smart because it allows them to mill the cup out of smaller stock, thereby keeping the costs down. This may make it feel like a little less of a quality cup but I have no complaints. It may actually come in handy to be able to remove the ring at some point. On the bottom of the cup is a grind size recommendation image that is kind of pointless, but it looks nice. If I have a complaint, it is that it doesn't fit snuggly in my Breville Barista Express portafilter (54 mm). It is made to fit 51 mm diameter baskets. So, when I put it in my portafilter there is quite a bit of wiggle room. (I've attached an image with the ring removed so you can see the gap.)Ultimately, this doesn't matter because I am going to hit those grounds with my WDT. If you don't have a distribution tool, this could cause problems. Another thing to note is that this cup will fit in the cradle of the Barista Express grinder, but there is no lip to activate the grinder. So, you have to push the button first and then quickly put the cup in there. That being said, you don't need to put the cup in the cradle. It will catch the grounds just fine sitting on the base. I saw that Amazon has another cup that has a built-in lip but it didn't look nearly as nice as this one. ... show more

This funnel is made of solid metal and feels very substantial. The edge is removable in case you need to, but so far this works very well as-is. The size fits well into my portafilter and allows me to place grounds in with no mess at all. It's a great part of keeping my station clean. I've been using this for several weeks now nearly daily with no issues at all. The surface is non-stick and static free and clean up is extremely easy. Not much to say about a dosing cup but this is definitely high quality and is also super easy to clean.
