  • Terrible. Avoid this.
Multiple issues with this door despite us really wanting to love it. First, it is billed as being adjustable. Not entirely accurate. It was either too tall or too short in the setting options offered. Weather stripping- I saw in the other reviews that it was inadequate but we are talking major gaps. Without substantial additional stripping, no way could we keep this up during our Michigan winter. Item came missing both the directions for installation and the flap that secures the door. Fortunately, the video was posted that he could review. Unfortunately, hubby had it installed before realizing the flap was just plain missing. Since he had to cut the metal off the top to make it it I assume we cannot return this piece of trash. It also takes up too much room in the door- hubby is 6'2'' and 270 and even going through sideways cannot clear the door. He is just plain pissed. Only positives are that it shipped quick and the white blended in well with our existing sliding glass door. I would give this negative stars though if that were an option. ... show more

  • This improved the cat's life and mine too! Depending on your door it might be a bit of a project.
It does the major things I bought this for. It's easy to install and removable. I have to take it out regularly to get things in and out of my balcony storage. Even though the cat flap didn't come in the color I wanted the apartments haven't complained and the white looks good enough for me. When I remove and put back the panel one or both corner pieces on the top usually pop off. Not a big deal. What is actually worth noting is that there isn't a way to seal the part that adjusts at the top next to the door. To actually seal this would probably mean putting material in that wouldn't allow me to remove the panel. If your door opening is big enough to not need to remove the panel regularly you can solve this. I'm just hoping not too many tree roaches find their way through that gap once winter passes! The lack of a functional locking/sealing solution is somewhat of an issue but you can probably figure out a solution. The lock provided and people's suggestion to put a wooden board down would work on every other sliding glass door I've seen but mine is installed with the sliding pane on the outside. If there was a lock that pulled the panel and door together they would actually seal, which ar a lot of the complaints. Maybe you could include plates that could be installed to bridge the gap between standard sliding door thickness and your thinner flap door. This would give people the ability to choose their own locks. My apt complex is great but they're only doing emergency maintenance right now. A missing sliding door wheel isn't an emergency when the door will lock without the flap insert so I have had time to think of a solution. If the doors were flush at one point this would be easier. Yes to cleaning your door where it overlaps. You'll have to uninstall the flap panel to clean later. Doable but easier to take care of first! I'm going to put some pretty window film on mine for added privacy. The cat and I are happy we have this. Just know that, depending on your door, it might be a bit of a project. Enjoy! ... show more

  • Works Well When Modified
Happy with purchase. The door was a bit too tall. However, per another reviewer, I cut down the metal piece (the spring loaded piece) at the top to reduce the height by about 2 inches. Since then, the door fits well. I used a circular saw with a blade for cutting metal, and it went OK. However, a table saw would work better. The weight of the circular saw cause the metal to bend slightly and made cutting difficult. However, when the door is in place, the cut area "in the slot" of the sliding door and does not show. Our cat is happy it has free access to the porch. We're happy because we don't have to leave our screen door open and it prevents hot/cold air in the house (as much) in the summer/winter. It took our cat a few weeks to figure out the door. We had to coax her back and forth a few times, but now she goes in and out with impunity. ... show more

  • Love this
So happy to not be at my cats beck and call anymore! I also love that the cat door specifically has the 4 different locks so at night instead of having to make him come in I can set the switch to in only, so when he finally comes in on his own terms he can't go back out. I did get my own silicon weather stripping because I don't like the foamy kind that eventually disintegrates for both sides of cat door and added the brush kind to the inside of my slider to fit around the silicon one and added it across the top of the little cat door because there's a little gap and it doesn't interfere with the cat door at all. ... show more

  • Cat door is purrrfect.
Installed the cat door without any problems. Attached the regular patio door lock to the left side of the pet door and everyone kept forgetting to unlock it and would pull the cat door to the left. I put a long screw through the bottom of the door diagonally into the bottom of the track and the pet door no longer moves. Enticed our kitty, using treats, to go through it. Once through in each direction, she became a pro and is now going in and out as she pleases. Good product! ... show more

  • You CAN install it on a vinyl slider
With a little extra work, you CAN install this on a vinyl slider. Pictured install on an Anderson vinyl slider. I’m a 5’ tall 120 lb woman and I installed this myself. I added a bit of weatherstripping for good measure. I will return later to update on how weatherproof it is and if there is any adverse effects on my energy bills. UPDATE: Strong winds push the door open, so I knocked off a star from my original 5 star review. ... show more

  • Perfect solution
My neighbor’s cat decided to move to my house after they had their 3rd baby. I love her, and want her to be safe and content, but I refuse to provide a litter box. It seems that she understands the deal, because she uses the door constantly and really enjoys her freedom - and uses the bathroom outside. 😊 ... show more

  • Don’t trust the lock
The door works fine. I’m not at all confident in the locking feature as it’s mounted to the track of the slider and many like my Renewal by Anderson are a type of composite that screws will rip right out of if enough force is applied. I cut a dowel and secured it in with fasteners to be confident it the security of it. ... show more
