Review of HTVRONT Gold Permanent Vinyl for Cricut - 12" x 6FT Chrome Gold Metallic Vinyl Roll - Easy to Weed & Transfer Craft Mirror Gold Adhesive Vinyl Rolls for Home Decor, Party Decoration, Mug, Window I used this for my second attempt to use a new Silhouette cutter machine. I cut an 8 inch wide piece and I laid it on the sticky mat because my cutter handles only about 8 inches width so the roll was in the sideways direction. Trying to lay it down I noticed there was a layer of cellophane type plastic that I removed and kept to allow me to smooth the gold later. My first cut project was a milk type carton of cardstock. I wanted to try this gold vinyl to embellish it (see attached photo). I used a stock design from Silhouette and shrunk it down to fit. When shrunk down some of the weed areas were extremely tiny, only about 1/8” and the actual object to be transferred had some parts that were only 1/16”. I couldn’t get the object off the backing plastic in one piece without the leaves of the design separating from the stems. I placed them on my project separately and it is definitely not perfect, but it looks nice to me (not horrible for my first cutter project). Once I figured out how to weed, it went fairly smoothly. I recommend creating weeding squares around objects to limit how much of the sticky vinyl needs to come off at a time. Since I didn’t do that in my cutting phase, I cut the pieces I was working on apart to limit the weed pull sizes and it went very smoothly after that. I like the color, it looks and acts like gold leaf. It adheres very well to cardstock. It weeded well as by my third attempt at the design succeeded. I cut three, I needed two, the first attempt failed because I hadn’t cut the pieces apart yet and the weeded area rolled back and stuck back on the object and I couldn’t get it apart. The second one was usable, but I had several of the thin areas pull apart during the weeding. The third attempt went well. I was able to get a fully weeded intact object (before I attempted to separate it from the backing plastic). So any failures were my own fault as I was able to get one correct as my skill grew. Applying it to my project was difficult as the sticky side is stuck to a plastic sheet. this type of vinyl requires something called transfer tape. You apply the tape over the vinyl after weeding and then pull the vinyl off the backing paper exposing the sticky side of the vinyl. Then you apply the vinyl to your project. Now I did not know this step, so I just individually pulled the pieces of my cut and weeded design from the plastic and stuck them separately to my object. It worked, but I wish I had known about transfer tape. They should sell it along with this as a "buy with" item. Overall I am pleased with my outcome and I can see this working well with transfer tape. ... show more

I’m staring this review with some advice - there is a cover sheet on top of this vinyl. Remove it before you cut. I didn’t the first time. I just thought the vinyl looked weird and ran it through my Cricut. Felt rather silly once I realized it. Second piece of advice, do a few tests for the right setting on a small piece of this. I found that the holographic vinyl setting with more pressure works well for my Cricut. But I also like the iron-on setting with more pressure. Once cut, this vinyl is stunning. I already have some holiday cards planned with this. The adhesive is super strong. Way stronger than on most vinyl. It is easy to weed IF you find the right setting. ... show more

I have used several HTV Ront products, and they have all been great. However, this gold vinyl hasn't been very good. I use it with a Cricut Maker 3. It doesn't cut cleanly and it is very frustrating to weed. This is partially because many of the pieces are not fully cut, but also because the vinyl slides around on its backing too much. It looks nice and might be fine for some projects, but I have had terrible luck with projects requiring intricate cuts. ... show more
