  • OK Stand, Could Be Great (with some tweaking) but still OK!
I like this stand for several reasons... it is semi heavy duty, easy to put together and at a reasonable price for a dedicated fixture that will remain in my garage for a long time. The key to putting the base together is to first lightly screw in all the screws before tightening them. The holes are slightly off center holding the legs together when in pieces, but are perfectly aligned once you crank down all the bolts. Getting the nuts on the inside of the tube to thread were a problem for my big hands until I put a piece of duck tape with the sticky side out around my index finger and then just placed the nut on the tip which held it in place for the bolt to thread. I've mounted a buffer on the stand and the vibrations have not bothered the friction bolt that maintains the height in any way at all despite several hours of buffing. Yes, it would be nice if the manufacturer had put holes in the top tube for the bolt to slide in to secure it at any given height as this would really secure the top but so far no slippage so I don't worry about it. The vibrations do however effect the mounting plate which seems cheap and flimsy compared to the rest of the stand. It has a loud rattle no matter how hard it is cranked down and seems like it was overthunked:) as you first have to secure your tool (in my case a buffer) to the plate and then secure the plate to the stand with nuts encased in large wood knobs. A heavier mounting plate that secures directly to the stand would solve this problem... but it still works so I will live with it and see how long it lasts. The only other negative I see is that the adjustable rubber feet don't come with locking nuts but that's a simple fix. Overall I like it, seems a good value, doesn't take up as much room as a bench table and I give it a 4/5th thumbs up! ... show more

  • Rust, insufficent tool list, etc.
The tool list doesn't include the 14mm open-end wrench you need to get the levelers started as the threads are gunked up. I found that a magnet and piece of tape helped get the inner screws in because my worker hands are too big to get two fingers and a screw 'up in there.' The picture is worth a thousand words. The box was unopened and the plastic was secure, so the flaked paint rust spot is simply unacceptable. If this was anything other than workshop utility it would be on its way back to AMZ. YES, DO put all 12 screws in BEFORE tightening them AT ALL. The metal will bend and everything will fit. I found a Dewalt power driver was better than a wrench for this. In the set of parts were two big black round knobs with thread on one side. There were no QTY-2 items on the manifest, and no instructions on what to do with them. Turns out they are used to hold the top to the stand, and tighten around the bolts protruding downward from the top. I intend to use this for my drill press... but first I'll have to get casters to replace the levelers, and second, probably drill a hole so that the height-adjustment screw has more grab -- I don't like how it's 1/4" bolt friction against a piece of metal. That's downright going to fail one way or another and I don't want to pick up the pieces. EDIT: The levelers are 10.5mm and I found a set of casters that work great on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07DV7N1MZ/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Overall, I don't think this is a "great deal." It's a cheap stand, and that's what you get. Ehud Gavron Tucson AZ ... show more

  • Tips For Easy Assembly
This my second purchase of this stand; so I thought I'd mention how to avoid the assembly issues that others have mentioned in their reviews. First; it is just the usual Chinese-made quality anyone expects out of China. I gave it 5 stars anyway because it was exactly the questionable quality I expected out of China; no surprises!! It is a nice sturdy decent-for-the-money stand though. Here's my list of assembly tips: (1) When assembling the legs, get all of the leg bolts for all 4 legs started before you tighten anything. Leave the nuts pretty loose until all are in their respective holes. Then you can start tightening, and the legs will "bend" themselves into place. (2) These are the usual junk Chinese "rubber-like" bolts, and will strip/break easily. Use a torque wrench set at about 15 lbs. If you go to 20 lbs., you will ruin a few bolts. Of course another option is to go the hardware store and buy some decent hardware! (3) On the welded-on bolts that the rubber feet screw into, you need to run a thread chaser or tap through them first, as the threads are full of paint and welding slag. That's it. Do these extra steps, and the unit will fall together like it was made in the USA!! ... show more

  • BEST ADJUSTABLE STAND FOR THE MONEY
A BIT ABOUT ME. 85 YEAR OLD RETIRED AIR FORCE CHIEF OF MAINT., HEAD OF MAINT. FOR A COUPLE OF LARGE US CONCERNS IN CIVILIAN LIFE. MOUNTED A DEWALT 6 INCH GRINDER ON THE UNIT. WENT TO TOGETHER WITH NO PROBLEM AFTER I READ THE REVIEW OF OTHERS WHO HAD PURCHASED THE UNIT. GET SOME DUCT TAPE TO WRAP AROUND YOUR FINGER TO HOLD THE SMALL NUTS IN PLACE WHILE INSTALLING THE EXTENSIONS. FINGER TIGHT ALL NUT/BOLT COMBOS THEN TORQUE THEM DOWN. SINCE THE STOVE BOLTS THAT WILL HOLD YOUR GRINDER TO THE PLATE ARE INSERTED FROM THE BOTTOM UP, I FOUND IT EASIER TO MOUNT THE GRINDER TO THE PLATE AND THEN DROP THE PLATE ON THE ADJUSTABLE POST. THE LARGE BLACK KNOBS THAT HOLD THE PLATE ON TO THE POST WILL BE IN YOUR WAY IF YOU TRY TO MOUNT THE GRINDER WILE INSTALLED ON POST. OK, NOW TO TURN SOME OLD LARGE RAIL SPIKES INTO SOME VERY CUSTOM SPECIAL KNIVES. YEAH, I KNOW, AT 85 I SHOULD BE ON A BEACH IN FLORIDA NOT IN CENTRAL TEXAS MAKING KNIVES. LOL ... show more

  • Solid Bench Grinder Stand
This bench grinder stand beat expectations. Only giving it 4 stars because the assembly instructions are only worth inventorying the hardware that came with the unit. Once that is complete throw the instruction manual in the trash. It's easy to figure out, carriage bolts etc. and fairly idiot proof. The stand levels very well, the adjustment raising and lowering the work height is a huge plus. My Delta 6" bench grinder bolted right to it, however if another brand of bench grinder will not then drill some holes it's worth it. ... show more
