Description

The most exclusive golf clubs in the world are special places that elicit feelings of awe and wonder from most golfers. How great would it be to play some of the storied venues of the game such as Winged Foot, Riviera or Muirfield? Or, the ultimate for any golfer, Augusta National, home of the Masters? How to Play the World’s Most Exclusive Golf Clubs highlights the many ways that golfers can enter the world’s elite clubs, located in some of the most beautiful locations in the world. How do you go about gaining access to some of some of golf’s hallowed grounds? Who do you have to know? How do you find a member? What is the etiquette to follow? This book gives insights into what has worked for the author and other motivated golfers. An avid golfer and student of golf history, John brings an unparalleled enthusiasm, a unique perspective, and an insider’s insights to the task. Throughout each chapter there are personal stories about the author’s experience and unique stories about some of the lengths to which golfers have gone to gain access to golf’s premier venues. The proliferation of golf course ratings by magazines, combined with the expanded information about golf courses and golf architecture that the Internet age has brought to the fore, has created a new and expanding group of golf aficionados who dream of playing at exclusive golf courses and are eager to learn the secrets of doing so. This book’s coverage of more than 125 global clubs will be perfect for any player. • Love World Golf, Buy This
A wonderful tour through the journey to play top golf courses around the world. A good mix of anecdotes on the experiences on playing the courses and some of the ways to gain access. Doesn't promise you an invite to every great golf course, but definitely illuminates ways to get on and how to go about it. I learned a lot. I really enjoyed the pace and style. It was an easy read and full of great content. ... show more

  • A fun read for the golfer and non-golfer alike
I am not much of a golfer, but I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I've occasionally checked in on the author's blog as he pursued the quest to play the top 100 courses as I enjoy his commentary about the social, physical, and financial environments which surround the golfing world. This book distills all of that into a concise, fun read. I finished it in a leisurely few days, taking quick hops with the author to lunch at exclusive clubs, tipple in Scottish villages and bathe naked with total strangers in Japanese baths. It will be the go-to for several of the golfers (and some non-golfers) on my gift list. I'm sure they'll enjoy it and they'll probably get onto a few courses that they wouldn't have managed otherwise. ... show more

  • Very Good
A very enjoyable and easy read. The book could have used a little editing from time to time (Warren Buffett's name was misspelled twice) but overall it was a very enjoyable story. The author seems like a nice man who has been blessed in life and seems very appreciative of things.

  • A must-read for any golf fanatic!
This book was such an enjoyable read. John has a gift for telling detailed stories of his fascinating and inspiring journey across the world playing golf courses most of us only dream about. The stories about Pine Valley and Augusta are what I was most excited to read and they definitely are worth it! On top of hearing about the behind-the-scenes experience at these elite clubs, John shares actionable tips and strategies to get on some of these most elite clubs which makes the book utterly priceless! A must read for any golf junkie and I'm buying more for gifts! ... show more

  • Useful, practical, educational, and entertaining!
What an amazing story. I have been following the author on-line for a number of years and couldn’t understand how he was able to play all these courses. I don’t have the resources to play a fraction of the one’s he did, but the book is a great guide to help me play just a few. I especially liked his stories of playing in Japan and France and found them entertaining. Wish the book was longer, but already have a couple of ideas on how to play a couple of bucket list courses. Pictures are amazing too. ... show more

  • Three Stars
Very general approach to playing some of the great courses. More specific contacts would have been useful.

  • Pay it Forward!
Wow! I can't believe no one thought of a book like this before, what a great idea. Unlike some of the others leaving comments I have never heard of John or his blog before. I have played around 6 courses in the book, but now I have the motivation to play more. His prose style was easy and entertaining, although not light. I mean this as a compliment. I was expecting a breezy, no depth story but it seems quite thoughtful and well researched. I also like his charitable approach of paying it forward and helping charities. ... show more

  • There are some very nice interest pieces in the book as well
The book was exactly as advertised. It's not just a diary of the author's experience; there is plenty of content for anyone who has any aspirations of playing some of the top private clubs in the world. There are some very nice interest pieces in the book as well; stories about certain people or cultures where these courses are located. The only thing you won't get out of this is actual contacts to use for access, but c'mon, it's not any fun if you don't have to do any of the work is it? ... show more
