  • No Fluff, Just Fundamentals
Format: Kindle
First impression of this book—no flowery presentation, no fluff. Just the basics. It is stripped down with intention, centered on an extremely pertinent area of life and of crafting a life that is fulfilling: personal finance. Just as promised in the introduction, the author stays in that lane. The adage used to frame the principles is apt—teach someone to fish and they will never starve. He names the principle, defines the rationale, and then demonstrates what it looks like in practice, whether through sample budgets or clear compounding formulas. It is straightforward. It is easy to follow. The design of the book mirrors the way a strong teacher structures a lesson plan. Objectives are clearly laid out at the start of each chapter. The points are then covered with precision. Then comes the recap. Tell them what you are going to do, do it, and then review it. It is a tried-and-true approach to teaching, and it works here. It is not a long book, but it delivers a strong and direct message: take control of your life by taking control of your finances. I walked away with the clear understanding that hard work and sacrifice are what make any of this sustainable. It is a much-needed reminder to do what is necessary. Like good medicine, some parts are difficult to swallow—but absolutely necessary. And that is exactly why I would urge others to read it. ... show more

  • So Informative and Helpful!
Format: Kindle
I really enjoyed this book because it made money feel less intimidating and more manageable. The book reads like someone patiently walking you through the basics instead of overwhelming you with numbers or complicated ideas. I liked how it focused on learning skills you can build over time, which helped me feel less pressure to get everything right immediately. The explanations around budgeting, saving, and investing were very detailed and incredibly informative, yet easy to follow and understand. I found myself thinking about my own habits and where I could make small changes, one by one. While there’s so much advice and information to take in, the writing stayed light and approachable, so it never felt like homework. I also appreciated that the book encouraged responsibility without guilt or fear. By the end, I felt more confident, more aware of my choices, and motivated to take better care of my finances moving forward, even if progress happens slowly. ... show more

  • A great deal of wealth of information!
Format: Kindle
J. Walker wrote a wonderful book. It was very well researched. I liked how he wrote the book comparing finances to fishing. The steps that were provided were very well instructed. J. Walker wrote some interesting facts, and compared it to if you were going fishing, how to help a person with their income and how to be better charged at it. This book really gave a good explanation on how to do this, and use the wording so it was easy to understand if you are just learning how to build wealth and make things in a better way for your lifestyle. This book really gave a great explanation on things. I give this books a 5-star rating. I would recommend it to others given the chance. ... show more

  • Timeless
Format: Kindle
I’m glad I came across this book. After talking with my grandkids about their financial future, I found this book to be an excellent reinforcement for our conversations and a backup when they need to hear this information in a clear, relatable way. The author aligns well with the timeless idea of teaching someone how to build a future rather than handing them temporary solutions. The concepts are practical and easy to understand for teens, or anyone just beginning to think seriously about money and self-sufficiency. As a grandparent, I appreciate having a resource like this. ... show more

  • Getting Through The Sea That Is Finances
Format: Kindle
The title of the guide itself just happens to be the most creative I have seen so far. Comparing dealing with finances to fishing was something that might attract this guide to fish lovers who want better financial tips. • A good reinforcement to the basics
Format: Kindle
This was actually a super easy, surprisingly motivating read. The whole “teach a man to fish” angle fits perfectly, something simple and not necessarily new but I couldn't quite feel it before. I do like the very simple explanation of how it is actually about understanding the basics to avoid feeling confused or intimidated by finances. While there are topics that usually make my eyes glaze over, these are broken down in a way that feels doable, not overwhelming. The tone is friendly and straightforward, and it doesn’t assume you already know anything. I walked away feeling more empowered and way less stressed about the whole adulting side of life. This is a great place to start working on your finances. ... show more
