  • Look for other books that actually teach you something
I bought this for my 8 year old niece at Christmas, she likes to draw and is quite good at it so I thought this would be a good idea. When I first flipped through the book it was not what I expected, no step by step or any sort of instruction, just pictures broken down with a grid and an empty grid for you to try and duplicate. This did not seem like the best teaching method but since it had so many good reviews I thought kids must like it so I kept it and gave it to her. Her reaction was the same as mine, told me it was weird and seems hard to do. It isn't the natural way one would go about drawing and therefore not really teaching you much of much. I wish I had returned it and spent the money on something she would have liked but once I gave it to her it was too late for that. If you want a step by step drawing book look elsewhere, this is anything but step by step and does not really teach kids how to draw. ... show more

  • Not a “how to” book. Waste of money
This is not as advertised. This is not a step by step or how to book. As you can see in the photo, this book shows a competed drawing on a grid and then gives an empty grid with the instructions “your turn.” Very disappointed.

  • Useless
So the name of the book is How to draw...... Well, I can honestly say it's the first "How to draw" book that I've ever purchased that actually doesn't teach you how to draw anything. It's crap. And I gave it to my nieces along with some other things, thank goodness, for Christmas. Please, don't be fooled by the title of the book. It will teach your child nothing. On the left page is a picture of a unicorn. And on the right page you will see, is blank other than the words, "It's your turn!". So basically your child is just copying what they see. The title is nothing but false advertising and lies. There is no step by step anything or activities. ... show more

  • Awesome drawing book for kids!
My daughter loves this drawing book! Out of all of the drawing books she has, this is the one she is most interested excited about. She like the grid drawing the most so far. Being able to focus on just one square at a time allows to create drawings that really please her!

  • Fun for my daughter and myself!
Fun entertainment for my daughter! I purchased this one and the animal version for this author and they have both made for some hands on entertainment. Both books contain a page with an outline of each of the animals which is intended for tracing but also great for coloring! I may have also used a few of the pages to learn to draw myself also.... ... show more

  • Cute book, but have spare paper around so you don't draw in the book
It's a cute book with different projects aimed for beginners. There are four pages that seem devoted to each project -- a basic drawing set against a grid, a blank grid to practice transferring the drawing on, one that can be traced, and a blank page opposite the one to trace to practice freehand. While I like the idea, the paper is thin and confusing if you are planning on drawing inside the book. The drawing to trace can be easily seen through the page that you are meant to practice grid drawing on and can be confusing because the trace shows up in different squares than the drawing that should be transferred. I highly recommend just printing out some 1 inch squares and using blank paper for any practicing to avoid getting confused. ... show more

  • My daughter loves it!
This is just like the drawing books I used as a kid- the original picture is on one page in a grid, and on the other page is a grid for the user to copy the drawing. Practice and repetition are key for this learning method- once you've mastered their drawings, you can use the skills learned and muscle memory to adapt them to your own drawings, eventually leading to creating your own drawings all together. It's not for everyone, no- but my 7 year old loves it. ... show more

  • Super cute and fun!!
Super cute pictures to learn how to draw. The steps are nice and the grid process is a little tricky at first, but with practice gets easier. Kids can also just trace and then try on their own if the grid isn’t the way they learn best. Super simple and cute. Great gift idea for little artists.
