  • Helpful for a Tight Budget
Perfect set. It has everything I would get from other sites at a lower price. This is important when you are working on a budget. The pages offer constant review throughout the book. They don't just teach a topic & move on. The child constantly reviews & builds on what they have learned. The pages are in color also, so not so boring. At the lower levels I personally feel the teacher's manual is optional. I have ordered it for previous grade levels but found when I am only teaching one child that I don't use it that much. It does contain extra practice pages but we didn't use them because the lessons offered plenty of review. If your child struggles with math they might be helpful. It does go into detail how to teach the lessons as well. Other parents have noted as the grades grow that you need the teachers manual, so keep that in mind. My child is a VERY hands on learner. I use Horizons to help her get used to the idea that not everything is hands on, that she will have to sit still sometimes & do "boring" work. She loves math though & excels in it so Horizons must be working. For those new to Horizons Math that might be just starting out.......Be aware Horizons works at a slightly higher level than some other math programs or public school. I recommend going to Alpha Omega's site & looking at their scope & sequence chart before ordering if you are coming from another program. No sense wasting money :) Overall Horizon's is a great program that we love using. At this time it only goes up to Pre-Algebra, hopefully they will continue expanding. ... show more

  • Wonderful for a child who seems to be advanced in math
This was a wonderful math book for my daughter who is in kindergarten but seems to be advanced in math. It’s ability to introduce higher level concepts bit by bit was very encouraging for my daughter to not feel pressured to master a new concept immediately but gave her time each day to understand a new concept. She was able to finish this book and we have now ordered the 2nd grade book to complete over the summer. I also love all the practice sheets included in the teacher manual. I gave those at my discretion for extra practice. ... show more

  • We LOVE Horizons Math
We love Horizons Math. It is colorful and engaging. It is not overwhelming by having first graders drill pages of addition at once. It does several different types of problems per lesson. I have used horizons for 2 children (after switching from a different curriculum) and would recommend it to anyone. I personally use it with the teachers manual, though I know some who don't. The manual helps you round out the lessons by giving you teaching hints, as well as scheduling calendars, counting by 2's 4's 6's etc, and flash cards that wouldn't be covered in the workbooks .But it is not scripted. Of course one could plan those activities in their own lesson planning but I like having that part done for me. I can open the book, gather what we need and teach the lessons. ... show more

  • Nice worksheets.
Starts out too easy with the counting numbers and circling shapes that are smaller or bigger but moves on to exactly what our local school would go through. The item arrived in great condition. Good price. I use this in conjunction with Math U See program but my daughter and I love the worksheets and layout of this curriculum and it takes concepts easier than math u see in a way that 1st graders can understand. Seems friendly and familiar to both parent and my former kindergartener who was used to worksheets. These are infinitely nicer than the quality of the Public school worksheets sent home last school year. ... show more

  • Love this!
Ordered this for my daughter. My son is almost done with the same series and it's great how it slowly adds new information for him and introduces him to new concepts with very little confusion. Teacher companion not necessarily needed for this age group but I can see why I'd need it with some of the more advanced grade. Teacher manual good for extra busy work for kids when they have a concept they can't understand but honestly wouldn't pay the money for it at this age. Can't wait to go through this series with her and get the 2nd grade version next year for my son. ... show more

  • For Those Looking for a Secular Program
Not a review, just a note: For those who are looking for a secular program-I recently received these and read through both workbooks and there is not a single reference that is biblical or alludes to church life. If you really want to read into it, there is maybe (??) an incredibly subtle nod to it in the very traditional choices of names for the people in the word problems-Ruth, James, Mark, etc. I did not buy the teachers manual and can’t guarantee it’s the same. Another note-you can find more sample pages on the aop website and there are YouTube reviews with full flip throughs. These really helped me decide to go with this program and I can’t wait to start it with my son! ... show more

Love it. This workbook works at a decent pace and is easy to follow. It has lots of color to make it enticing for kids.
