On unboxing, the shovel seems rugged - but the scoop rivets protrude uncomfortably. The handle seems solidly attached, but I've never seen rivets stick up so far. I had to wrap duct tape over the rivets, to avoid discomfort and glove wear. If you don't lift heavy loads, and stay above the rivet area - it would be good-to-go. I bought the Hooyman pickaxe first. Not knowing the brand, I thought they'd be good backup tools. Once it arrived, I immediately bought the shovel for regular use. If you’re like me and respect old quality tools but your 50 year old spade just broke, you’re going to like these products. Unlike box-store stuff that limp you through a season, these folks make tools solid like your Granddad’s but with the new materials. They’re well-weighed (heavy for an occasional user, perfect for hardcore work). I’m confident to beat on these tools and still get years and years out of them. Super good stuff at a reasonable price. My review is completely unprompted, unpaid. I just appreciate someone making something of quality for a change, and this is my new go-to brand. Can’t wait to see what the designers come up with next.
