First of all, these shelves as a whole are really cute, and I DO like them. However, DO NOT use the mounting system provided with the shelves. *TRUST ME HERE* They want you to use an 8mm (5/16) drill bit to drill holes for their drywall anchors. DON'T. Go to a home improvement store and get better drywall anchors. Get a set with slimmer screws (1/4 drill bit anchors would probably work well) but that will support the weight you need the shelf to support. Bring one of the screws included with the shelves and ask for help if you need help locating the right replacement kit. I went through the ENTIRE install process only to be left with drooping shelves. I ended up taking them down and going to Home Depot to get new anchors (after reading reviews here of course, should have done that first). I already had the 8mm (5/16) anchor holes drilled (obviously) so I had to get the green #14-#16 x 1.5in anchors (which required the 5/16 holes). The problem was that the screws included with the new anchors were too large for the screw holes in the mounting bracket (which is why I recommend sizing down from the 5/16 size noted on the instructions). I wound up using the new anchors along with the original screws provided by the shelf manufacturers. It's better than it was, but still not '20 pounds' sturdy. I am going to install a second set using the smaller anchors and hope those are sturdier in the end. I will also note that the screws for the bottom of the shelf are there to support the mounting arms inside the shelf. They sucked to screw in, and ended up being kind of diagonal. I *think* this is what is supposed to happen? It seems that the screw acts as a sort of "wedge" between the mounting arm and the interior of the shelf, so that the mounting arm remains tight after the shelf piece is slid onto the arms. I know this is a lengthy explanation but I wanted to be sure to include details of the whole pain-in-the-butt process I had to go through so that you don't have to go through the same pain-in-the-butt process. **Please Note, this is a review of the service and not the product** The product seems to be decent...if the company actually sent everything required to install it. The first time we ordered the product the packaging was missing the mounting bracket and the hardware required to mount the shelves. The package literally just contained two planks. I wrote a msg to the company and they promptly told me they were sorry, and that a new package would be sent to replace it. Great! The second package came, and this time the planks came with the screws, but no mounting bracket. Annoying, but at least it was a step forward. I wrote the same message and the company responded that they would send another one. The Third package came today...and like the first one, it just contained two planks, nothing else included. C'mon guys, who do you have running your logistics? Returning for a refund and getting off this silly ride ... show more

These were a little too long for the place I wanted to use them, so I cut one down figuring I could add a piece to the cut off end and refinish it to match. These shelves are made out of incredibly cheap stuff. Basically thin pieces of MDF on top and bottom and a bit of paper to fill the hollow core. Ends are particle board. The wood-like finish appears to be a sticker -- not even wood veneer. So, not easy to modify and not very sturdy stuff. The good news is that the brackets are pretty good. Thin metal, but the design is nice. The particle board of the shelf is supported by the hollow metal rod, and there's a set-screw that keeps the shelf from moving around. I may use the brackets to mount some real shelves.... ... show more

I bought a new TV and against my wife's better judgement, I tried to hang it on the wall by myself. I was successful (of course), I also took a chunk out of our drywall (of course). All of this right before our big family Christmas party we were hosting (of course). I'm not handy, and we didn't have time, so I had an idea that apparently totally redeemed myself. "Let's cover it up with shelves." My wife was annoyed, but due to time constraints, she gave in. I installed them EASILY. And she loved the way they looked. She liked how they looked so much, that she made a point to tell everyone they were HER idea at our Christmas party. And in return, she told nobody about my little drywall snafu. Thanks for a great product, and for saving our Christmas! As for the drywall holes, well...we'll just leave them for the next homeowner to fix. ... show more

Awesome product for the price! I was lucky enough to find a stud right in the middle of where I wanted to hand the shelves! So the inner hole of the mount was screwed directly into the stud. For the other four screws, I marked all holes using a pencil and level, used a 5/16 drill bit (8mm was recommended) and screwed in the white drywall anchors by hand. When mounted, the shelves were not perfectly perpendicular to the wall due to the imperfect bracket. To avoid them slanting down away from the wall, I flipped over the mounts, so now the shelves are slightly slanted upward, but this is perfect for me. Finally, no, the metal brackets do not have holes in them to match the holes at the bottom of the shelf. I was going to drill them myself, but then discovered I was able to screw right into the metal using a little bit of muscle. They look great and feel very secure now. ... show more
