  • Love this book!
Format: Hardcover
They don't write them like this anymore! If you're looking for creative plans and authentic ideas to improve your outdoor living space that highlight the trends and make use of the materials popular during the mid-century time period, this is the perfect resource for you. Written in the 1959 and republished in 1971 with several subsequent printings, it does recommend things that we now know to be dangerous -- such as asbestos materials for fencing, for example -- but if you can look beyond that, you'll find plans for building everything from masonry structures to wooden fences to garden shelters to plant stands to benches to trellises to patios and more. Even creative ways to use concrete blocks and other inexpensive building supplies are here. John Burton Brimer illustrated the book himself, which makes it even more impressive. We are very glad to have this book on the shelf both for inspiration and for access to detailed instructions and plans. ... show more

  • I'm liking the retro
Format: Hardcover
I don't know a thing about construction, but this book looks like it could teach me a thing or two. I'm glad I got it. My kids love to look through it too.

As a mid century home owner eager to plan garden, porch, fence, trellis designs that complement my 1950s house, this is a frequently consulted tool. We bought it to plan a fence design and we use it for trellis ideas, a truly mid century modern gazebo, planter boxes, patio designs, etc. ... show more
