  • Well built machine
Style: SCM-1148L【148LB】Limited time deal (origi...
This is Lisa's husband writing the review. I'm 5'7 and have been lifting weights for many years. Very well built machine, perfect delivery of all 4 boxes. No missing parts. Instructions were great but the video helps when routing the cables. Took me 4 hours to, assemble but I went slow and greased bushings etc... It's a lot of work to assemble but not difficult. I used to own a high quality Impex machine so I have some experience, this machine is great for the price. The leg curls are great, but the leg press is hard to use because there's not enough room to get it started easily. I may see about welding a modification to it that would help to get it started. UPDATE: You can adjust the leg press forward which helps make it easier to use. Not a fan of the preacher curl ergonomics. It works but the angle feels off, but I have not experimented enough yet so maybe it will be okay. You can stand and do curls from front of the machine easily. It has a very small footprint for what it is which is great for tight spaces. Everything else is great. Highly recommend this machine! ... show more

  • Wonderful Home Gym
This review is for Item JXL-1150. I did allot of research before making my purchase. Going to stores and looking how other home gyms are made. I also did my on-line extensive research. I even called JX Fitness and talked with them on some of my questions. This is a very well made efficient home gym setup. The price is very reasonable and I can do most of my workouts with this machine. It's very heavy, sturdy and stays in place. It came in 6 boxes and arrived sooner than what I expected. It was package very well and didn't have a scratch or dent anywhere. All the parts were there and the small nuts and bolts were packaged and numbered. The larger parts were not numbered but they were easy to figure out where they go. I must say there is allot to assembly with many parts. The instructions are good and if you have half a brain it's fairly easy to assemble. I waited 6 months before I wrote this review to see how well I liked it to give you my honest opinion. I've been going to gyms since 2002 and been around workout machines and free weights for over 20 years. I live in a large South-East Texas town and elected to stop going to a gym because of all the increase parking lot car break-ins. Doing my workout at home was the perfect solution to solve this problem. This home gym can do about 40 different workouts. I use about 30 and learning to do more. By knowing your muscle groups you can experiment to see what workout works best to exercise the muscle you want to workout. You can go online and get examples. With this machine you have allot of workout options if you use your imagination. I am very pleased with my purchase. One of my best decisions this year. ... show more

  • Short, Narrow, Imbalanced
I ordered this unit on 17 August, 2022. Kit arrived several days later in multiple boxes. I assembled this by myself over two days, taking my time. I’ve waited until now to write a review because I wanted to be sure I knew how to use this machine. Assembly Kit arrived in five boxes, each well marked as “Box X of Y.” The assembly instructions were in Box 5. I wish they’d marked which box had the instructions, as I opened each box sequentially until I found them. Assembly instructions were pretty well laid out. Sequence was good. Isometric drawings were clear. Fasteners were numbered in the drawings, with corresponding numbering on the cardboard sheets that held the fasteners. Issues with assembly – The weight plates are one of the first items assembled. The plates themselves have protrusions/dimples that allow the weights to stack and helps keep them in line when stacked. The assembly instructions do not stipulate whether the plates are to be stacked protrusion side up or down. I picked one, and it works, but I wonder if it wouldn’t work better if I’d flipped the plates. Unfortunately, I’d have to disassemble most of the machine to get to the plates. Short Dimensions are slightly short in terms of length. I’m 5’10”, and I often find myself running out of cable during an exercise. The weight stack assembly could be a foot or more taller, allowing longer cable. Narrow The overhead cable must be pointed almost directly down during an exercise. That is, the cable cannot be pointed to either side to any degree. Otherwise, the cable rubs against the pulley, creating drag. Likewise, when I started doing Overhead Tricep Extensions, I found the cable would drag against the upper arm of the machine, so standing away, in line with the main axis of the machine, also facilitates drag. The floor cable must be pointed at a significant angle away from the floor and in line with the pulley during an exercise, which works great for squats, deadlifts, curls, etc.. While doing seated rows, I find the leg extension arm gets trapped by the cable’s movement and lifts. To avoid this, I tend to involve my traps much more, pulling the cable at more of an angle away from the floor. Opening the angle of the cable guard would have fixed this. Unfortunately, this guard is heavy metal, welded, instead of bolted so it can be adjusted. Imbalanced When doing shrugs, squats, deadlifts while keeping my feet on the Foot Plate, everything is fine. However, when performing Bent Over Cable Pullthroughs (pulling the cable between my legs, facing away from the machine to work the glutes), the end of the machine lifts and the entire machine scoots along the floor. Longer Foot Plates would possibly solve this, but maybe a better solution would be to add more mass at the light end of the machine itself. Conclusion The kit comes with two chains, each of different length. The chains and the attachments (bars, etc.) are coupled to the machine using carabiner-like chain links that close with a captured nut. Turning the nut to change attachments takes a few seconds and becomes aggravating during my workout. Better would be a simple spring-loaded clip. I realize this isn’t a specialized piece of gym equipment, designed for a small group of exercises. Perhaps I’m expecting it to do more than it was designed to do. There’s a learning curve involved around this machine, and the user must adapt and compromise to get the full benefit of what this machine can provide. Overall, I’m satisfied with this machine, the price I paid, the prompt delivery, and the quality of build. For a home gym setup, this is probably about as good as it gets, at least in my experience. ... show more
