  • Holy Stone! Not quite what I expected...
The media could not be loaded. Amazon and the Deerc are great. Yeah there was a issue on my part.... So either way I still ended up buying the Holy Stone hs161 quadcopter. It was a total disappointment. So after unboxing and charging everything (Batt., Remote) I read the manual and saw that I needed to scan a QRcode for the EzFly App that is supposed to work with WiFi for this quad. Scanned it and then downloaded it. Next I turned on the quadcopter first then the remote to bind with the remote(L. Joystick- up, down) then the lights stop flashing and it's now linked to the remote. I then proceeded to open wifi and found the "holystone" wifi signal and connected, next I opened the EzFly app to find that most features were not working, including live video+pic feed, Flytap and a cpl other features. I did some research and found the answer for at least one of those features from another Holy Stone app review feedback from other people whom bought different quads from Holy Stoned. Turns out the cellular data needs to be shut off for it to link. So I did all the steps again in same order but no data this time and the picture came on when I opened the app and hit "fly" Boom! Visual. So I understand it's not a hs720 or anything else but my syma cx5w was a nice begginers quad just saying. I turned on the rotors with the one flight up button and took it up off the ground. It's seemed ok. Optical flow was decent but the climb to a max height of I'd say 30ft high was the first let down, then the speed of flight in the highest setting was still incredibly slow as a turtle. The footage is glitchy on live feed but works as good as it gets for this cheap quadcopter. Takes pics/video in 4k1080p supposedly. Not thrilled with quality of either finished product. I tried to use tapfly and have yet to figure this feature out. The flight time was maybe 7 or 8 mins. It was just mostly a let down and I wish I had gotten something else other than a Holy Stone hs161. It's cool that it has a led fleshlight and you can do video and pics with the quadcopter in hand without it being in flight not to mention charge a mobile device for very short time. Overall I wouldn't suggest this Holy Stone hs161 to even the beginner. Total let down and wished I had spent my money on something I would enjoy flying. ... show more

  • Great starter drone with Decent WiFi fpv
The media could not be loaded. I’ve had this little drone for about a week and I’m impressed so far. I’m not a beginner but this would be a great first drone to learn the basics. Make sure and read through the manual because it has lots of features that are pretty fun to play around with. It is easy to read and understand. It doesn’t come with a carrying case but I don’t feel like I need one as everything fits nicely in the foam cutouts in the box and is well protected. The drone is very light, but the prop arms snap into place well and seem sturdy. I like that it comes with removable prop guards to use indoors safely. It’s not fast, but that’s good for a beginner. There are 3 different speeds to choose from but I just fly on the 3rd speed and it’s still only goes 5 miles an hour or so. The optical flow works well and keeps the drone in place even in moderate wind if you are flying over grass or a field. This mode does poorly over blacktop or water, but you can turn off the optical flow when needed. It won’t hover in place by itself when turned off. Also remember, when the optical flow mode is on it won’t fly over 30 feet high or so because the sensor can’t detect the ground higher than that. The two batteries last around 10 minutes each which goes pretty fast when you’re having fun. I was pretty blown away by the live WiFi fpv. I recommend getting away from houses with WiFi internet to get the best signal. I had some old google cardboard type virtual reality goggles sitting around so I went to a baseball field and tried to fly it fpv style. I’ve never had good luck with WiFi drones and fpv before but this one is actually pretty good. The field of view is good and the image is clear with very minimal lag! I don’t know if I just got lucky or what but on one run I was able to get out to 140 yards until the video cut out! It won’t be that good in a city back yard I’m sure. I included a video of a one of my flights and it shows exactly what I was seeing through the goggles. Not bad! I have an iPhone se 2nd generation and haven’t had any issues with connecting through the app. You can do everything through the app including Pulling up a virtual controller that actually works pretty well! I almost felt like I didn’t need the physical controller. The controller that comes with it is nice, although it’s battery is small but rechargeable so I just charge it when I charge my drone batteries and it always lasts through the session. The voice command works ok. When I give command it flies in that direction for about six feet then hovers in place until the next command. Sometimes it has a hard time hearing my command and just hovers but it’s fun to play around with. I also tried the “draw a path” mode and was surprised it actually works! You just draw a path on the screen and the drone follows it. I don’t know how they programmed that. You can’t scale it up so I’d say you’re limited to about a 20 foot radius with that function, but it’s still fun! I did some zigzags and spirals and the drone flew the patterns. I’ve flown at night a few times and it is very visible and easy to keep orientation. You can turn the floodlight in the front on or off, but it was never bright enough to actually see anything well on the fpv screen in the dark. It has a slot for a mini as card but I like the video to record directly to my phone and haven’t used it. All in all it does what it’s advertised to do for a good price and that’s Worth 5 stars from me! ... show more

  • Great for Novice hobbyists!
The media could not be loaded. The Holy Stone HS161 is a great novice drone for beginners looking to explore the world of drones and their capabilities. The HS161 is everything a hobbyist could ask for in an affordable drone. The package enclosed cones with the drone, remote controller, replacement parts and screw driver, 2 drone batteries, and 4 propeller protectors. The pros for this model: 1. Light weight 2. Easily detachable propellers 3. Flight stability with little to no over exertion of the propellers 4. Capable of charging small electronics such as phones and tablets 5. The HS161 is a portable flash light while the wings are folded in. 6. The 1080p camera works well with the app available. 7. Smooth operation while flying the drone via the app with virtually no lag from your device to the drone. 8. HS161 is small enough to stow in a small bag or backpack for on the go adventures. The cons for the HS161: 1. The flight time varies with the included batteries. Tge average time for flight with each battery is about 10-13 minutes while using the remote control or tge app. On the positive side the drone will come with 2 batteries. 2. The camera range of motion is limited to a 45° angle. This does not take away from the performance of the camera though the camera will not be able to reach a full 180° to 90° picture entourage. Overall this is a great quality product. Awesome performance for an affordable product! ... show more
