Description

The classic Hofner bass updated with a few modern refinements. A year after celebrating the 50th anniversary of Walter Hofner's original violin bass, made famous by a certain Beatle who shall remain nameless, they have decided to produce a contemporary version. It has a vintage look that will produce many "oohs", and an internal sustain block that creates a more modern, deep- resonating sound that will produce many "aahs." It's the kind of bass guitar people love to see, play, and hear. Aesthetically, this model features a maple-beech-maple set neck with rosewood fretboard accentuated by mother-of- pearl dot inlays, the signature Hofner violin bass headstock, a brass trapeze tailpiece, and glossy spruce top with glossy flamed maple back and sides. An ebony bridge with movable metal saddles maintains intonation and string spacing. The nickel-plated hardware and floating celluloid pearl pickguard give it an extra little pop for the eyes. On the electronics side, you're working with two original Hofner 511B 'Staple' humbucking pickups, as well as a control panel with 2 volume controls, 2 on/off switches, and a rhythm/solo switch for volume boost. The overall sound is warm like the original model, but with a little more sonic kick for a more "now" sound. Includes case.

  • Great Bass!
Color: Pearl
When I received this bass, the upper two strings buzzed at the second fret. I put the recommended flatwound strings on, and loosened the truss rod a tad. The buzz went away after a few days. This is a beautiful instrument. It sounds and plays like a dream. Very happy with it!

  • Initial reaction review. WHERE'S THE CASE?
Color: Pearl
At this point, all I have done is open it and look at it. It looks great, however according to the description it's supposed to come with a case, and it didn't.

  • Great Bass came with no Case
Color: Pearl
The Hofner bass is amazing! The workmanship is excellent. I am not disappointed except contrary to the description, no fabric case was included. Beware!

  • Great Bass
Color: Pearl
This is a great Bass. I already have several Hofner basses. I did the normal mods by adding a German control panel and German pickguard. I put La Bella Flat wound 39-96 Beatles bass strings on it. I also put the German tail piece on it as well. Next to my German 500/1 63-AR-O, the HTC sounds slightly different in tone acoustically, and through a amp it is a bit louder and has more sustain but sounds great. It is a little heavier than the German counter part, but the build quality is dam close. ... show more

  • I like it.
Color: Pearl
It sounds more crispy than the full hollow bodies made in Germany. I like it.

  • Pleased
Color: Pearl
I love mine. Previously I owned the ignition series, and it's OK but junky. This version is perfect and has most of the qualities that the German version has. Using a set of labella Hofner strings is highly recommended.
