I gave this 3 stars for several reasons. 1. There is no overflow fitting on this. My hope was to be able to connect it through the overflow to a second barrel, therefore when it is full it starts filling the second one. Also this allows you to direct the excess water where you want/need it to run off. 2. The filter screen is not in the center of the top. Therefore you will have a puddle of water sitting in the top, until it reaches high enough to enter the barrel filter screen. This can cause mold, and be a mosquito magnet. 3. The directions mention installing the valves after all the assembly is complete. There are two issues with this. The first is, this barrel came with the valves permanently installed, which I do not prefer. I would much rather have bulkhead fittings the valve screws onto, so replacement is possible if necessary. The second issue is if you assemble pre instructions, and did have to install the valves it would be near impossible. Once frame is completely assembled, you would not be able to reach the bottom of barrel, to hold oner side while screwing the other.. 4. The top of the barrel sinks down about 6" creating a well of sorts to hold the water as it goes into the screen. This puts the top down at about the 40 gallon mark of the scale on the barrel. I doubt very seriously this will hold 50 gallons of rain water, even if the top did not sink so low. For these reasons I would not purchase this barrel again, as there are better options available, in the same price range.

The media could not be loaded. This 50-gallon rain barrel was really easy to assemble. It's really light weight. It's weight makes it easy to place anywhere, though I chose to connect mine to my downspout. The plastic rubber-like cloth that holds the water is like what they use for inflatable boats. It's pretty thick. I don't think the description shows this coming with a lid, but it does have one. I really like it, actually. It's a zippered lid with a built-in leaf filter. Everything was great with this item, except for the bottom most hose bib. I encountered was a leak where it appears to be cross-threaded into place. I managed to fix it with some Teflon tape and plumber's putty, which stopped the leak. I decided to cover the putty with flashing tape to protect it from the sun. (Check out the Pics) It's been three days with about 25 gallons of water, and no leaks. While it's a good, lightweight, and relatively inexpensive rain barrel, the company really needs to improve their quality control for the spout installation. If I were a new buyer, I'd consider returning it for a replacement due to this defect.
