There are four big buttons that the baby must handle in certain ways to get a toy to pop up. One requires the baby to simply press it. Another button must be flipped, like a light switch. Another requires a twist, like a door knob. The last must be pushed upward. I believe each interaction with the toy prepares the baby for things she must do in the real world, especially around the home. There are numbers on the top of each hole (where the pop up toys hide) that parents may use to help teach the baby 1-4 numbers too.     • A Novel, but Not Forever
Similar to the pop-up toys we all played with in our toddler days, the one has buttons and switches to manipulate and creatures that arise with a satisfying “pop” and surprise the happy little one playing. The animals include a bird, a pink hippo, a lion, and one that we weren’t sure of the identity of (A dinosaur, most likely). Whatever it is, this toy definitely is a winner with those of the "peek-a-boo" age group! Our little one is learning animal sounds, so it was so much fun to watch her open the bird and lion accompanied with an adorably mimicked sound. Our 16-month-old tester could work three of the buttons, but had to ask for help turning the switch for the hippo, so there are some skills to be gained -- a plus. While our tester found this toy to be a lot of fun, I could only give it four stars because the stickers began peeling off on the second day of use, and the lightweight plastic of the toy makes me suspect it won’t be around in a few years. For a short-term toy, it’s inexpensive and fun, but it lacks the longevity of similar, but more expensive, pop-up toys from other companies. ... show more

Nice little pop up toy that works fine motor skills with levers that push, twist and toggle. Can learn colors. Seems well made with not sharpe edges and is lightweight. Purely mechanical; there’s no sounds or chimes. All in all a nice little toy for busy time.

Between our kids and grandkids we've had several of these popup toys over the years and every one has been great and played with more and longer than tons of toys we paid much more for. This one doesn't seem to be quite the same quality as the ones from years ago but seems fine. This one also isn't as heavy but I consider that to be a good thing - less likely to bop someone in the head, or dropped on someone, resulting in a flood of tears. Also, easier to carry around the house for little hands. The four buttons all have different functions but all work smoothly and don't require much effort. Easy for a small baby to activate. They pop up with a nice "Pop" sound that babies always love. The figures are cute as they can be. The colors are bright. This is at a good price point on the Amazon listing compared to similar popups listed, and with the current 30% off coupon it is a great value! ... show more

I got this for my daughter's 2nd birthday. She loves this type of toy. The colors are vibrant and the little animals are cute. The plastic seems as sturdy as the fisher price one she's played with before. No sharp edges. As expected she has trouble with the turning button as it needs to be turned until it clicks, but I'm not worried about it because these kinds of toys always seem to have 1 button that is a challenge for kids.
