I primarily ordered this backpack since it is close to the maximum allowable size for many airlines as a personal item. Admittedly, I have many, many backpacks, and I often get more looking for an ideal backpack for the occasion. I got the XL (30L) version of this backpack. Note that there are different reviews for other sizes of this backpack. The shoulder straps are lightly padded, which is nice. It is also very lightweight (I'm guessing less than 1 lb). There are also pockets on the outside for water bottles - not that they are not elasticized, so they may not be secured. Overall the backpack meets objectives of being lightweight and the right size. It is also comfortable with weight in the backpack. Downsides: there is the zipper pocket in the front, and there is a sleeve in the inside. There are no other pockets or zipper areas. This is quite a downside, depending on what you are using this backpack for. But I am guessing that with more pockets, etc, it would increase the weight. I will be keeping this backpack, and likely using it for travel, especially since I often put a smaller bag/backpack into a larger one when I fly, so that way I have options when I am at my next destination. But if you like organization in your backpack, look for a different one.

I got this to go to a music festival. It survived a ton of dust, spilled beer, moshing, shoving etc. My only complaint is that the straps rub against the inside of your arm when you're walking. You could use a seatbelt cover to add padding, or just wear longer sleeves. Just wish they straps were more like a traditional backpack instead of literally just straps
