I recently purchased a 2025 Subaru Forester, and it came equipped with a horn that could best be described as well this side of anemic. I can’t quite capture the sound it made, but suffice it to say it wouldn’t have disrupted evening prayers in a cloistered nunnery. Since I live so far out in the rural wilderness that one must walk toward town to go hunting, I regularly encounter a veritable horde of wildlife worthy of the fire scene in Bambi. With that said, I need an authoritative horn—something capable of announcing to the denizens of the woods that a rather large, fast-moving object is arriving and possibly not in full control. After browsing through a digital bazaar of countless horns here in the Amazon mercantile, I decided to take a chance on this pair of Hella horns. I’d like to claim that their extensive technical specifications swayed my decision, but that would be a lie of convenience. The truth is, it was their glorious red, candy-like color that spoke to the tiny child within me—the one who shouted, “I must have them!” With my dubious selection process now exposed, I can report that serendipity decided to smile upon me. These little red pancakes were delightfully easy to install, and—by some miracle—Subaru had already provided adaptable mounting points beneath the bonnet of my worthy steed. When I pressed the horn button, I was rewarded with a loud, two-tone, gloriously raucous blast. The child in me grinned a lascivious grin of delight, and I pressed the button again… and again… chasing endorphins like Pavlov’s most self-satisfied dog. Eventually, I stopped—mostly out of concern for my own moral character. That afternoon, taking the Subaru down the open road, I realized these horns were everything I had been looking for. I should have known—being German, they could produce nothing less than a trumpet of Teutonic glory, as though my Subaru were parked at the gates of Valhalla demanding entrance. Decided to upgrade my F350 with the HELLA Supertone 12V High Tone/Low Tone Twin Horn Kit, I was going for something that demanded attention. And oh, it does—just not quite in the way I expected. Picture this: a beast of a truck that, when it honks, unleashes a sound you'd swear was a very angry, very loud Volkswagen. My dad can't stop laughing, and honestly, it’s become a bit of a running joke. About the horns themselves. First off, the red protective grill gives them a pretty cool look—if aesthetics are your thing, these don't disappoint. Installation was straightforward enough, not rocket science, but here's the kicker: these horns are LOUD. I mean, really loud. The kind of loud that gets everyone's attention on the road (and possibly a few startled glances, wondering where that sound is coming from). The twin horn setup, offering both high tone and low tone, creates a sound that's undeniably powerful, albeit not the deep, throaty honk you might expect from a truck. Instead, it’s a sharp, penetrating sound that slices through traffic noise with ease. So, would I recommend the HELLA Supertone Horns? This is our third set of these super loud Hella horns. We live in a city where stoplights seem to be a suggestion so these are very helpful. Mounting both horns can be difficult on smaller cars that don't have tons of extra space but are worth it. I used a FARBIN wiring harness but they are all very similar.

I drive a small sports coupe with a wimpy horn which often gets overlooked/cut off in traffic. I installed these with the included relay and let me tell you they get people's attention. I did a lot of research on these so with that the installation/wiring was relatively straight forward and simple. The included diagram is a little confusing, so if you're like me with limited electrical experience you may want to fall back on an online tutorial (there are tons of them). Installing these requires you to remove your OEM horn(s) and I also had to cut one OEM horn connector to splice into the positive (+) signal wire. That is the only modification required to the vehicle itself but it should be mentioned. They function great, have a great appearance and are loud as heck. Some people expect a deep tone but these are pretty "sharp" and somewhat high pitched, but it's an ideal "alarming" tone. 4 stars because they are packed rather crudely. The box is thin and there was no packing material what-so-ever inside, only a small thin flap of cardboard separating the two horns. Because of that mine were able to knock into each other in shipment resulting in some very small imperfections and scratches in the red grill paint. You have to be very close to see it but I expect better packing for the price and a company who has been making these for quite a while. My buddy ordered Sharptones and his horns at least came in separate plastic baggies, mine had no such luxury.

These "Sharptone" horns really do a nice job of alerting the average hamfisted driver to your presence on the road. I opted for these Sharptones (yellow) over the more popular Supertone (red) because I wanted a slightly deeper tone. There's a few comparison videos around, just search "sharptone vs supertone". Installation is straightforward enough. Although, the nuts that hold the brackets onto the backs of the horns are EXCEPTIONALLY tight, as the other reviewer stated. However, if you are careful and mindful of what you're doing, no harm will come of loosening them. I used an impact wrench with good results. I can't really fault the product here because it seems like they aren't designed to be loosened or removed. The kit does NOT any wiring or accessories. You receive two (2) horns, and one (1) relay, nothing more. Something worth noting is that these pull a LOT more wattage than your average stock horn. You won't get the full effect unless you run heavier gauge wire directly to/from the battery and to the relay (the instructions show you how). I'd say 16ga wire minimum, but 14ga or better is more realistic. You'll also have better results if you run a ground from the battery to these horns versus grounding to the frame. Just remember, melted wires are a fire hazard; the stock wiring in your car ISN'T designed for these. As far as performance and appearance, it's pretty much exactly what I was looking for. They have an aggressive yet subtle look behind the grill of my STi. They are also EXCEPTIONALLY LOUD. My ears rang for a few minutes after being subjected to the full force of these horns. To simulate the average distance on the road, I stood 20 feet in front of the car and had a friend activate the horns - the sound is UNBEARABLE, believe me. Finally, it should be noted that these horns "project" their sound, similar to a PA speaker. If you're anywhere but in front of the car, the sound level is average.

Hella stuff is usually awesome, these horns, not so much. The lasted exactly 135 days before one developed an internal dead short and blew the fuse. Since they were new I assumed it was everything but the horns. After hours of troubleshooting and head scratching I disconnected both horns and slipped in a new fuse. I then plugged in one of the horns and it worked. I plugged in the second horn and the fuse blew. I swapped them out with an old set I had laying around and now all is good again. Hella, what happened to the quality you use to sell?
