  • Slow start but there is an awesome game in there.
Platform For Display: Nintendo Switch Edition: Standard
If you’re having trouble starting this game, I implore you to stick to it. I did and I found that after a few hours, once you start to get to know the characters, it gets better and better. I personally love this game. I’m a grown adult woman who enjoys prgs, JRPGs and farm/life sim games as a way to relax before bed. But I do find some of them to be pretty boring, and this game hit that sweet spot for me. I looked forward every day to being able to come home and get back to expanding my farm and getting more areas explored. I also managed my expectations going in. It’s not a AAA title, but I have loved Square Enix’s games for years. I know that the first game in a new series will have some ups and downs, as I do think some things could be done more efficiently and that the story could be expanded upon more. I personally would love to see this turn into a series and see where the sequels could take it. I think there is a beautiful story and very, very entertaining game for people who love farming/life sims but also like a little more of a challenge as far as combat as well. If you liked Rune Factory games, Atelier Ryza or Sophie, I think you would really enjoy this game. I think it’s beautiful. I know some reviews on YouTube complained of the visuals being “fuzzy” but I found them dream-like and very calming and cozy, especially since I play before bed. I love this game and am in the midst of having an amazing playthrough. If anything absolutely awful comes up at the end and I change how I feel I will edit this review but as of now, this game is a very well deserved 5 stars. I have a hard time finding games that find that spot between too cozy/boring and too stressful/exciting. This is perfect, I love this and can’t wait to hopefully see more from this series. ... show more

  • Good job Square Enix
Platform For Display: Nintendo Switch Edition: Standard
First, this is not Stardew Valley. If you expect that, you will be disappointed. Unlike Rune Factory, I give this game some slack because I know Square Enix is doing a Farm Sim for the first time. I believe they did a decent job. The farming aspect is satisfying enough - plowing is what you would expect, but the watering feature is so nice! You can just hold the button down and move over the crops while watering them. It is smooth and satisfying. I wish more games implemented that! The harvesting is what you would expect. There are gradual upgrades as you fulfill requests that allow you to water/hoe/harvest in batches, so that does help. The farm is also upgradable as well. I haven't done anything with animals yet, but you can get them. There is a machine for making animal feed, so I expect they do not feed themselves like in the Harvest Moon series if allowed outside. I like the character stories. They are simple to follow but interesting enough that I am willing to continue doing the side quests. The character appearances are also appealing to me and unique enough that I am not going to go confusing them with other characters. Gathering is extremely basic. It is just run to node and click A to collect. They are sparkles on the field with little node icons above them. That is it. No animation, etc. Bonus, you can collect while still running as long as you are close enough and hit A quick enough. Combat is interesting. It is not as fleshed out as you would expect in Final Fantasy, but you do unlock several classes throughout the game, each with their own upgrades and play style. The enemy difficulty is a mixed bag; each has weaknesses but in most cases I can simply tank through the attacks and melee them (especially if I have food). Bosses you have to exploit weaknesses unless you are massively over leveled. The first boss was probably the worst for me so far - he has a tendency of targeting the player and staying on top of them. At this point in the game you only have maybe 2-3 different classes, and only have the one area you can level up in. All I can recommend is JUICE. Lots of juice. (healing item that does not require your character to stand in place - thank you Square Enix). Overall, if you like Square Enix's work and farming sims, it is not a bad game to pick up. I found my copy $10 off during Christmas, so might be worth waiting for another decent sale or purchase 2nd hand if you are still uncertain. ... show more

  • Harvestella 👩🌾🐐🐓
Platform For Display: Nintendo Switch Edition: Standard
If you like the Zelda series and any farm games, then you’ll love Harvestella!! You get your own house with space to farm, in several locations. The graphics are absolutely amazing and breathtaking!! Along the way, you get to make friends and learn about them through quests. There’s 10 Chapters in this game. You get to kill monsters and Bosses. Raise your own chicken-like and goat-like animals back home. Four seasons: Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter. Plant seeds and trees according to the seasons to be able to cook meals to bring with you on your travels. Or ship them to get paid. Gather items on said travels so you can craft bombs and repair kits, enhance your weapons, craft feeders, etc, for your animals. Every 30 days, there’s a day they call “Quietus”, where everyone stays inside. But you can travel around to a special location that’s only available on that day. I hope you end up loving this game just as much as I do!! ❤️ ... show more
