I did a lot of research and looking around before I settled on this particular vise. I put a lot of credit into the reviews that others wrote about their experience with all the vises that I looked at, with this vise having the most favorable reviews. With that said I received exactly what I expected, It has great down force, a good finish and operates smoothly. I knew from others reviews that the corners would be sharp and needed to be stoned and there might be some casting voids. There were a couple underneath that were not a cause for concern. The other thing I expected and it makes no sense as to why the mfg of the vise would do this, is a raised pad where the indicator mark should be for the degrees of rotation. No mark and the pad is raised 1/8" of the surface of the degrees marks. even if the mark would have been there it would have basically been useless as the surface was to high to get a good read. This surface needs to be lowered and a indicator mark added. Other than that a great vise. ... show more

Circular Base Diameter 10 1/2" Bolt (2) Center 9 1/4" Frame Length 14" Frame Width 6 3/4" Bed Width 4 7/8" Height To Top Of Jaw 5 5/8" Max Jaw Opening 6" Jaw Width 5" Jaw (From Bed) Height 1 5/8" Very nice vise for the money. Too big for my little mill. Packing was horrible. Hole punched in end of box. Blue metal shards inside turned out to be manufacturing scraps. No damage to vise Bed and jaws are milled very nicely. I bought this to use with a mini mill. When I bought it I was concerned that it may be a little loose or sloppy. But when I received it and put it on the mill, it iwas better than I thought it would be. It is tight and accurate and has adjustments for tightness. All the surfaces on the vise are nice too. I previously had a large 6" vise of a different brand on a larger mill, but wanted something small for the mini mill. ... show more

Package could use some foam for the underside... it only comes with foam protection on the top and if handled roughly the bottom will scrape and not seat propperly on milling table.. (unless the swivel base is removed) it comes enclosed in plastic bag and covered in protecrive oil. Speaking about the design features, if jaws could be removed for direct use as split vise (directly onto the milling table) it would be awesome. I am really happy with this vise. I bought the 3" because I read the other reviews of others saying that the vises were larger than they thought. I use it on a Central Machinery milling machine that I rebuilt. I'm only a weekend warrior when it comes to machining so it's fine for what I do.

Fits on my Benchmaster Horizontal mill perfectly. Ran an indicator across the jaws and top of vise and it didn’t even move. If you don’t want the swivel base you can take it off. Great value! Only complaint is the packaging. It’s pretty heavy and is shipped in a cardboard box that allows for the possibility of damage. Mine was fine though. ... show more

I don’t know if they sale a model w out a swiveling base that may cost less; I can’t think of a reason why i would ever need a swiveling base and it shortens the stroke length of the mill.
