    • Great boots except 2 hooks were defective!
2 defective hooks on each boot. Very hard to tie properly for hiking. If you find same problem, return them at once - don't wait. I'm sorry I waited until after return window to realize there was no fixing these defective hooks. All other hooks are great. Sad because otherwise I love these boots. I work outdoors and also hike. I need strong ankle support, room for a bunion and room for orthotic insoles. These Hanwag boots fit the bill great, except for this hook problem! I've cut my hands several times trying to do my usual hiking tie-up. To date Hanwag warranty dept has not helped me solve this problem. ... show more

    • Super comfortable but have fallen apart after less than 100 miles - Edit: a new pair was supplied by Hanwag.
Four years ago, I bought my daughter a pair of Hanwag Alta Bunion boots for the occasional hikes we do together. (She doesn't have a bunion but found these were the most comfortable ones she tried on). She has been delighted with them and has never had a blister or any other foot problem. However, having done less than 100 miles in them, both Vibram soles have come completely loose and detached from the uppers all the way from the heel to just before the tip of the toe. The adhesive has failed. There are no tears or cuts and the tread looks almost as good as new. They have not been in water nor washed. I contacted the Hanwag rep here in the USA to ask what cement they recommend. They recommended Shoe Goo or to take them to a cobbler. Rating: 2 stars. Edited to add, December 16, 2017: We took them to the best cobbler in our metro area. He clamped them with the best adhesive but within a few miles the soles came loose again, failing in the same manner - the footbed to which the sole is attached has crumbled. So it is not the adhesive failing but the structural integrity of the footbed. I got back in touch with Hanwag HQ in Germany and they very kindly arranged for a free new pair of boots. It took four months for the correct size to arrive but they came today and my daughter is delighted with them. So I can say that Hanwag as a company definitely stand behind their product even years after purchase. And these are by far the most comfortable hiking boots my daughter has tried. ... show more
