Great product! I bought this little gem for my 1999 Ford Ranger. Evidently, I'm going through a mid-life crisis of sorts because I decided to add a 3 inch lift, bigger tires, and sweet wheels and get a little bit of that truck's youthful mojo back! After all, it was my first car after college and the only vehicle I ever bought new. I like that truck. Only one problem with the truck--it didn't have bluetooth. I like talking on the phone hands free (while driving) and I thought I'd give this one a shot. This was way easier to setup and get started that I thought it would be. The audio is clear. The transmission from the bluetooth device to the radio is seamless and I haven't had any cracks, pops, cross static, radio interference, or loss of signal. You can leave the hands free device plugged in for a few days, but if you leave it in too long it will drain the battery. I learned this the hard way (like I learn most things in life). The push to talk button works great with the iPhone and it actually dials better than the bluetooth device built into my Prius. Now that I think about it, that's exactly why I'm fixing up my truck. I drive a freaking Prius, people! And I wanted something with a little more grit to take camping AND talk hands-free while driving. I'm going camping after the first of the year and I really don't want to pull up to the site in a Prius. Don't get me wrong, I love my Prius. It holds TONS of gear, but it looks like a door stop. There. You have it. That's why I'm lifting my truck. The streaming audio works like a champ on this bad boy! I've been totally jamming to Christmas music lately on my Pandora station. After you pair the phone with the device, it's just as easy to stream music. Nothing like going down the road in a awesome looking truck jamming out to Otis Redding singing "Merry Christmas Baby". Honestly, the Bonnie Raitt / Charles Brown version of that song rocks too. They did a duet on the "A Very Special Christmas Album 2" album and it's fantastic. Both versions sound nice and clear on this! Side note: I haven't tried the micro SD slot on the handsfree yet, so I can't give you a review on that. Maybe I'll do an update when I get time. The only downside I've heard from it is not on my end. Sometimes the people I call say that they hear their voice echo. I'm assuming it's because they hear their voice coming through my radio. Actually, the only person that's really complained about it is Rob--and he complains about every damn thing on the planet. I'm serious. Right now his big beef is that Thor Ragnarok was just "too slapsticky". This is coming from THE SAME GUY who made me watch Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog. And that's 42 minutes of my life that I'll never get back. Never. Get. Back. I was a little worried that it may protrude too far from my cigarette lighter slot (yes, this truck is old enough to have a cigarette lighter) and catch the shifter on the way down. It doesn't. It's got a low profile and it's perfect for tight spaces! YES! All in all, this is a great product. I recommend it to anyone looking to add hands free audio to their car. I've already bought one for my wife's Smart car for Christmas. I hope she doesn't read this. I've also included pictures of it in the vehicle so you can see just how far it protrudes. Also, here's pictures of the truck, Prius, and Smart car. I just washed both of them so I thought I'd share the pictures. Yeah, I know the paint is peeling on the truck. I'm about to fix that, too. I went ahead and included the mockup of what I'm about to do to the truck too! It's getting it's mojo back! AWWWWWWW YISSSSSSS!     • Clean audio signal, cheaper than a bluetooth radio swap
This radio transmitter functions just as advertised and gives a much cleaner signal than those old aux and bluetooth cassettes I've used in the past, and with very low noise in-comparison, especially for the price point. The round-ended design easily aligns itself into outlets so that you can plug it in without looking once you're used to it, while the stout spring-loaded contacts give enough resistance during extraction that it won't come out unless you want it to. I've also used the USB ports plenty of times to run a wireless phone charger, without issue and with a good charge rate. I can't speak on the call handling, but the basic song navigation/pause buttons are functional, though a bit stiff and small. It would be nice if the display could be dimmed though, since it's very bright to the point that it will reflect off the inside your windows at night; consider covering it at night once you've connected to it or memorized what seems to be a fixed frequency. Be sure to max the volume on your phone and adjust volume via radio controls to get the best sound quality. Also, unplug it once your engine's off because it will remain active, illuminated, and draining electricity otherwise, though I've left it on overnight by accident multiple times without draining my car battery significantly. ... show more

Works great, '02 Ranger, connects easy enough. Controls are simple but I had to read the manual. Setting preferred frequency was easy and it saves it after I have to pull it from the port(my 12v ports are always powered). Adjusting volume is simple, max is 30 then it beeps once loudly, I set it to max on the adapter then use car stereo volume knob to get the final desired play volume. Mainly using it to listen to music but call clarity was acceptable and the mic easily picks up my voice. Just gotta remember your call is broadcast over FM to your car, other radios nearby can unintentionally listen into your adapters set frequency and hear your calls(can even listen in from my clock radio in my room!). No AUX port but it's priced so reasonably I can look past it. Voltage display is briefly displayed when I plug it in, nice to have included. So far I'm satisfied. ... show more

First of all, the directions suck. You can tell it was translated from a foreign language (that doesn't use articles) because of the poor grammar in at least two places. I was pretty much reduced to figuring this out myself with a little help from the directions. I took about 10 minutes to finally get the thing paired with a radio station. I bought this so I could listen to music from a USB and I had a thumb drive with my songs on it. Couldn't get it to play anything from the USB either by doing exactly what the directions said or just randomly pushing buttons. Sometimes that works and since there's only two buttons, why not. But no combination of button pushing (and holding) worked. Fine. The drive had FLAC files on it and I noticed there were also M4A files (not supported) so I made another thumb drive with just MP3 files. Still didn't work. Fine. So I noticed I had 9 GB left on my phone so I copied the MP3 files - 2 GB worth onto my phone. I did manage to get that paired and the crappy app I downloaded did play them but the volume isn't going to be enough if I have the windows rolled down. So the directions say if I hold down the >> button, it will switch to USB, so I tried it. It worked!!! Yahoo!! Don't know why it works now but it plays my music. YAY! So just for the heck of it, I unplugged the thing, turned the truck off and on and plugged it back in again. It immediately came back on playing my phone. That's good. So I held down the >> button to switch to USB and that didn't work. No can do. That's #@$%^& bad. By now I've had just about all I can take, having spent at least an hour to get this POS to work. I'll probably use it to drive the 2.5 hour drive I bought it for and then throw it in the trash where it belongs and just eat the $15 plus tax. I just want to play my music from a USB drive. Can anyone suggest something? I'm asking because it seems like everyone is using these things to play their music off a streaming service, which I don't have and don't really want so if there's an old soul out there like me who just wants to play music from USB, I'd love to hear your recommendation. Update: OK, that was my initial experience with this. I'm upgrading this from a 1, because it appeared to me that it didn't work, to a 3, because the lousy directions caused me so much undue duress and personal anguish, it deserves it. So what happened? I was fully resigned to channel surfing on my trip like I always do - no big deal. But when I was about to leave, just for the heck of it, I decided to try it. At worst, I could use my phone to play music. I plugged the unit in and left it. When I did, I heard something that I didn't hear the day before: "Connection successful." (or something like that.) Then music started playing from my USB drive. My phone with all the same music on it was present, but I never started the app to play that music so I'm assured it came from the USB drive. I put my destination into my phone and the maps app turns off the music and the directions lady from the app comes through my speakers, which is kind of nice. AAAANNNDDD - I can hear phone calls through my speakers and speak to the mic in the unit, which is also nice. So it's all good. I wish I could tell you how we got here and the setup experience went perfectly, but I can't. Truth is, I have no idea why it's working.
