  • Great little handheld device
Bought it on sale and my daughter loves it! All the old school games from Mario bros to Tetris. Worth every penny. And it holds a very long charge. Definitely recommend.

  • This is a NES with lots of games in a tiny package
I didn't expect much from the listing, but I was absolutely floored to find that this is an emulated Nintendo Entertainment System in a tiny (4.5" x 2.5" x 1") console. It emulates an NES very well. There are dozens and dozens of built-in games to choose from, such as Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros., Contra, Heavy Barrel, The Goonies, Gradius, Tetris, Dig-Dug, Mappy, Pac-Man, Ninja Gaiden, Ice Climber, and Galaga. Many of the titles are Japanese releases (in Japanese), including a few Chip and Dale games. There's also Plants vs. Zombies, which I guess was developed for the NES long after the console was discontinued. There are 152 games listed on the menu, but some of them are the same games hacked to start on different levels; for example "MARIO 8" is Super Mario Bros. that starts you on World 8-1. I especially like that the unit turns on immediately, one keypress brings you to the menu, you can navigate through it easily (right/left moves through it by pages), and a press of another button starts a game. No wait for anything to load; it's great for jumping in and playing. There's no way to save a game here, but the original NES didn't offer that either. Sound is adequate, and I like that there's an analog dial to adjust volume. The colors on the display aren't very accurate, but I didn't care about that. The only real drawback to this console is that it is *tiny*. The display is 2.5" diagonal, or 2" wide by 1.5" tall - it's narrower than my iPhone. Seeing any detail on this, especially if you're an older person who enjoys retro goodness but your eyes aren't what they used to be, is difficult. When I played Pac-Man I found it difficult to see some of the dots remaining on the board. It requires three AAA batteries (not included). It comes with a cable to output (mono) audio and (composite) video to a TV, but no one has a TV with those inputs any more, so I didn't try that. It's single player only (no way to connect another controller). Unlike a real NES controller, the unit has no 'Select' button (the upper left button returns you to the game menu), and I don't know what the 'T' button is for. All told, this is a terrific little console if you want to relive the heydays of the NES for a while (or share it with your children and their much better eyes). ... show more

  • Good, but small screen
The roms work well and the selection is quite good. However, the screen is so small that the games are impossible to play well against. If you plan to attach this to a TV all the time then buy it. Otherwise do not buy it.

  • Awesome little hand held game
Color: Green
I ordered this for my son as a birthday gift. He is 7, but he loves playing retro video games. A lot of the games installed on the emulator are games I enjoyed when I was about the same age as he is, so its kind of nice to share the experience of playing these games with him. As other reviewers have mentioned, the screen is very small, but my sons young reliable eyes don't seem to have any issues seeing the game on the little screen. He has bee playing it non-stop since he got it. We are very, very happy with this handheld game. ... show more

  • Superb value, with some caveats, and identical to similar listings on Amazon
I am reviewing the product "Handheld Games Console for Kids Preloaded 152 Classic Retro Electronic Game Player" on 13 August, 2024. I'm having a lot of fun with this budget-friendly portable game player, which includes everything you need to enjoy some seriously ancient video games from anywhere, if you have the time and interest in retro gaming. First off, it's quite compact, and I found it easy to carry around in a jacket pocket. It comes complete with a detachable controller (useful for 2-player games only), an AV cable for connecting to a TV with a composite video input, and a USB cable for charging the included flat, cell-phone-style rechargeable battery. The choice of battery is genius—all it takes to power hours of gaming sessions is a short connection to a standard USB-A socket, eliminating the need to supply charged AA batteries. The main controls are conveniently located on the face of the unit and are used both for navigating and selecting from the menu of built-in games, as well as for playing the games themselves. This design of hardware control buttons gives this kit an advantage over playing similar games on a mobile phone through an emulator. The color screen isn't the best I've seen (chances are your mobile phone's screen looks much sharper), but it is adequate for the task and is effectively backlit. The audio is a bit tinny from the small built-in speaker, but for the application and price range, it is sufficient. The volume, adjustable via a hardware knob, ranges from adequate to quite loud The menu screen boldly claims "500 in 1" immediately after powering on. Five hundred! In practice, a cursory examination of the selection menu reveals many titles appearing two or three, or even more times. The game selection seems to date from the Gameboy era (late '80s through early '00s). My childhood gaming nostalgia originates in an even earlier era, which is not well-represented in the selection, though I did find my 'Tetris', 'Donkey Kong' and 'Pac-Man', as well as a 'Space Invaders' clone, which covers about 75% of my gaming interests, so I was pleased. As I continue exploring the unfamiliar titles here, many leave me feeling "meh," though some surprise me by being delightfully fun. As expected, there are a few duds along the way; for example, the 'Angry Birds' title offered looks and plays nothing like any 'Angry Birds' port I have ever seen and is ultimately no fun at all. All of the games that I tried, which I had played before, seemed slightly off, with gameplay mechanics subtly different from what I remember. My conclusion is that this player is probably not running original code in emulation but rather rewritten interpretations of the originals. This was not a problem for me, but purists might be put off by this. The included USER'S MANUAL perfunctorily identifies the lights, sockets, and buttons and offers some old-hat care and maintenance advice, some of the usual warnings and precautions, and tips for troubleshooting a handful of the most obvious issues one might encounter during use of the product. This game player is so inexpensive that, even with the several caveats mentioned, it's still a blast to play with and an insanely good value. It's worth noting that there are several identical products on Amazon at the time of this writing. I ordered a handful of them to see if, for example, some might have different game selections, but I discovered that, despite some differences in the way they are listed, the products I received were identical in every way. So, securing the best value for this type of product definitely favors shopping around for the lowest price. In conclusion, this game player offers accessible retro gaming with its all-encompassing portable design and practical USB charging. However, its game library, plagued by duplicates and non-authentic gameplay, may disappoint purists, and its speaker and screen are merely adequate. Despite some drawbacks, the player's low cost and basic functionality provide superb value for casual gamers. ... show more
