I have been collecting decks of cards for quite a while now. I am always on the lookout for ones that are unique. I got a little excited when I saw this deck available; it is very different from any others that I own. They arrived in an embossed reusable box, sealed, and wrapped in plastic. They are made of good quality cardstock and coated with a linen finish. They shuffle easily and do not stick together at all. They claim the these are waterproof, so I chose to check to see if this is true. I took a card and put it under running water for several moments; it repelled the liquid. It easily wiped dry and there was not any damage. The face cards each have a different anime type drawing on it. They look like anime to me, but I have not seen a whole lot of this genre, so I am not able to say whether it is “authentic”. I can say that the illustrations are creative, detailed, and colorful. Each one is different, there are not any duplicates. The pips on the lower cards are a unique design with a different theme for each of the four suits. I have ordered from this seller before and have always been pleased with their products and service. I will order from them again and I do recommend this deck of Japanese animation playing cards to others. ... show more

Whenever I hear, "paper" for cards, it makes me cringe at what kind of quality they will be.. But these, were actually pretty nice.. I would say that they are close to the same quality that the bicycle brand cards are.. The printing is very nice, the cards do bot crease easily, the slide back and forth nice and smoothly (maybe too smooth because if they are at a slight angle, they tend to slide and not stay in a pile).. They have a nice feel to them too.. I had no problem holding them in my hands.. Each suite has their own little twist on the design, which goes trough the whole suite.. The one thing that is off versus a normal deck.. Usually the diamonds and hearts are both red, but on these, it is more of an orange color than red.. Not a deal breaker, but something to note.. They say that they are made in the USA, but I could not find anything on anything that said where they were made.. The deck comes in a plastic wrapper with one of those pull tabs to peel the plastic back.. It kind of reminds me of how packs of gum are sealed, or old packs of cigarettes.. The negative about them.. Not cheap.. Bicycle playing cards are not cheap ones, and you can get a 4 pack of them for 50% more than 1 pack of these.. and if you use a lot of cards, you can get them for a 1/3rd of the price in bulk.. So yea, not cheap.. But nothing anime related usually is.. and that is why I did not take any stars off for the price.. ... show more

    • Budget "fancy" playing cards -- themed but generic

I went through a phase where I acquired a bunch of different decks of real nice playing cards, the kind that just glide across your fingers, made for card tricks and hipsters with a well-stocked beard oil collection. Every deck is uniquely designed with embossed case, unique pip design and cool face cards. Love 'em! So cool I don't even want to play with them, I just want to look at them! A lot of them are in the $12 per deck and up range. Here we have a deck that's at least half that price, with the same fancy deck box and unique designs. I was intrigued and had to acquire one for review. The box and seal are great and I do like the symmetrical, intricate design on the backs. And each of the pips have their own special design, which is also pretty cool. There is no packaging that comes with the deck, or here on the product page, that indicates that the characters on the face cards are from existing anime franchises. None looked familiar to me or the teenager here who sort of knows about that stuff. So I have to assume, based on that, and based on the low price-per-deck, that these are original creations by the designers of this deck. "Anime-Inspired", if you will. Regardless, you have a nice, consistently designed deck here, which is great! And for the price you might not expect a high-quality glides-across-your-fingers experience, and you don't get that. I accidentally bent a few of the cards trying to do a cut, so either I'm a big klutz (possible!), or the cards are a bit flimsier than I'd like (even more possible!). But for $6, it's worth picking up one of these Haakun decks (there are several other choices here at Amazon... Dragon, Horror, "Witty Cat", etc) as a stocking stuffer gift, or as an extra deck to have on hand to play with. ... show more
