  • DANGER! WARNING!
Size: P235/70R16
I have been a mechanic for 40 years and I have never seen anything like this. I had 4 tires mounted on my Ford Escape (at a professional tire shop) and they seemed to balance fine. However, just ten minutes after leaving the shop, I was driving at 75 MPH down I-30 and the car started shaking violently. It was so bad, the car was actually hard to control. Pulling into at different tire shop and explaining that I just got these tires mounted at another shop, they agreed to check the balance. We started with the left front. I expected them to tell me the tire had thrown a weight off, (which happens). Nope, the weight was there and when they spun it on the balance machine, the entire machine started to shake violently until the safety shutoff kicked in. I have seen thousands of tires mounted and never seen that before. The tire shop almost refused to do anything, but they didn't have a tire that would fit the Escape on-hand, so we spun the tire 180 on the rim and rebalanced. It took a lot of weight, but we got it close enough to drive back home. (And before you ask, we actually switched balancing machines just to be sure it wasn't the machine itself.) The tire started shaking again before we made it home. None of the 4 tires that were just balanced at the original tire shop were still in balance. I stopped at the tire shop that mounted and balanced the tires (Just a couple hours earlier), and they were very helpful. Once I told them the story, they allowed me to watch as they ran a diagnostic balance test on their two machines. Their machines passed. Frustrated, I went back home (about 6 miles), but before I got back the tires started shaking again so I decided to send them back. I used to hear stories about stuff like this from the old mechanics, talking about belts breaking or separating and I have seen it on big trucks, but not on a normal passenger vehicle. And while they are new, they are 3 years old. Bottom line is these are dangerous. ... show more
