This mat is very good quality. The surface is firm. Great for teaching skils from backwards rolls to back-hand springs. I have it for my girls at home, but it's made well enough for gym use too. It's wide enough to spot safely and long enough for older gymnasts to use. I would not use it for a spotting block, however, because the top moves a little bit when the mat is folded since there are no velcro closures on this mat as are found on some others.     • Not for smaller, young gymnasts. The incline is A LOT, though width and length are awesome. And the mat is on the harder side.

I wish I bought a smaller incline mat. I thought the bigger the better and I read about how important the incline is. But it's WAY too much for my 5 year olds to be safe on, for practicing walkovers and handsprings like I intended. Even my tall 9 year old is scared on it with such a drop. And it's NOT soft. It's been used a few times with the utmost of supervision. It hasn't softened up yet. I hope it does. It's not as hard as hitting the ground, but not tooooo far off. I'd recommend this for tweens, teens and adult gymnastics. If you can find a somewhat softer mat, I'd also go with that. It is good to be firm for certain tricks, but you want it to protect your head and neck and provide a somewhat comfortable fall. This one is pretty tough, but again.. maybe it will soften? I'm going to use it as a mini vault folded up for my twins. I love the folding feature, and the length and width is awesome for big tricks, but the incline is too much for what my intentions were.
