Added last picture after 2 weeks. 4 days after the others - Sporadic! We used both the 2ft roles & 1ft roles. The 2ft seems to work better than the 1ft also could be different batch runs. In the pics you can see the lighter & less sprouted 1ft role at one end and in a few spots where we had tears & wind blown pieces that stuck together. Don't do if there's thhe slightest breeze without staking they're very hard to reposition when even a little wet it falls apart, holes in role shown. We preped ground with BlackCow 50/50 fertilizer & also with fresh top soil prior to laying out Growtex. Some of it is great and on other areas it looks anemic so only 3 stars currently. Still have another 2ft & 1.5 1ft roles to play with so gonna do a test in another area against HydroGrass that you spray on as opposed to a role just for kicks. Stay tuned. ... show more

    • Not perfect but it works
Removed a semi large elevated garden from my yard in the spring. Tried fertilizing and seeding the area and had no results. About half way through the summer I bought this stuff and watered it has often has I could, following the product instructions. After about three weeks we had a really bad hail storm that punched holes through it all over the place and I thought it was a lost cause. After about 5-6 weeks the grass really started to take off. Still have a few spots that I’ll have to touch up but overall I’m fairly impressed with this stuff ... show more

    • Doesn't work very good
Put these in my yard and watered them daily. After two weeks, I could finally see some grass growing. It was very spotty and didn't grow as fast or thick as some products I've used.

    • Doesn't stick to ground after it dries
I placed the product all around the house where the grass sod had died. I ended up needing 4 50ft. rolls. You must use garden soil as soon as product is wet because once it dries it will blow over and fall apart. I followed the instructions explicitly and watered 3-4 times a day. The garden soil helped keep in the moisture. I saw grass growth after 7 days and hope to continue to see more. It seems to be a good product but is tricky to install because it falls apart when wet. ... show more

    • Looks Terrible At First, But It Works.
Me and my son decided to rake up a bunch of weeds out of the back lawn. Ended up raking up 20% of the back lawn. The size of the patch was about 4 parked Toyota Camry's. So I got a few of these rolls to cover up the bare spots. Delivery was fast! I rolled them out right on time before the rain hit that evening. The green looked terrible the next day. Like green toilet paper covering our yard. So I did what the instructions said and covered it with some topsoil; watered it. Sure enough a month later the bare spots are completely covered with fresh grass, some weeds, but mostly grass. ... show more

    • Grows great if you can keep it in place and water it regularly
I covered my whole yard in this stuff based upon a successful trial with a smaller area. The main thing to know is that if you are in a windy area, you are going to be babysitting and repositioning this stuff daily until it sprouts. Any serious wind and it becomes a kite and blows all over. If you are doing what you are supposed to be doing and keeping it damp, you then have to be extremely careful to get it back in position without destroying it, as it basically loses all structural integrity when it is wet, and walking on it will also destroy or put holes in it if the underlying soil is soft, so it is really a challenge to keep it in position. Overall, to do it again, and even now as I stare at my rolls which overnight were blown all over the yard - about 2000 sqft or over 700 dollars of material - I would just cover it all in a half inch of topsoil. This will keep birds from eating it, make it germinate and grow more quickly, and retain water a bit better so it would not require multiple waterings per day to stay damp. If you cover it with a bit of dirt, and keep it moist, you will have excellent results. Otherwise, just buy some sod and be done with it. I mean, it is really a sort of disaster when you wake up at 5am and look at your yard and have a bunch of stuff to do before work and you realize that you have to get out there and do an hour of grass seed roll repositioning and rehabilitation or your $3000 lawn project is going to look like hammered feces. These people really did not think through what any sort of wind at all will do to an installation without some sort of soil holding it down. Kind of a major oversight. I support US businesses and this is made in Santa Barbara, but come ON guys! You are seriously sinking my battleship over here. Get with the program and tell people how to make this stuff work. Topsoil, topsoil, topsoil. The turf is really nice once it gets going, but this is ridiculous. ... show more

    • Patience.
It's ok, a little weak but after 3 weeks and regular watering it finally came up. Next time I'll throw a handful of seed under it, or use 2 layers. Don't worry if it seems to disolve after a few days or heavy rain, just make sure you WATER it once or twice a day and if you miss a day don't give up.

I was surprised to see it worked. Just keep watering it and it'll grow into little buzzcuts across the yard! Easy enough to do for a blonde(myself). So, you can do it! Make sure you lay them in a line together. I did a "trial" run the first time and now I have a get bare spots that I'll have to lay out to even things out. ... show more
