  • Fantastic guitar for the price
Color: Purple
I just got the purple color today and it's a beautiful guitar. The fit and finish is excellent on it, the purple color is a dark shade the photo I attached was taken outside in the daylight. It has a nice thick clear coat over it. The headstock is nice, in the photo I posted the Grote name and design are like a shimmery shell in the light that changes, I tried to get it in the photo. The tuners are smooth and keep tune so I'm fine with them. The nut seems Ok it's thick and seems substantial for tone. The fretboard is wonderful it has a smooth feel with absolutely no sharp edges on the frets. Nice style of inlays with the shimmering pearl like design. The guitar isn't too heavy or too light so I'm happy with the feel. Hardware is decent no complaints, the pickups are decent for me at least they sound good but that's always going to be subjective and up to the player to decide if they want better ones. The pots are smooth and responsive no static. Overall I'm very happy with the guitar and surprised in the great quality and features that I didn't know about until I got it so it was a pleasant surprise at the price point to get a really nice LP style guitar, I've had several but this one is the nicest overall by way far imo. I'm so impressed with the brand I may get another style. I will keep mine stock because I just play for my own hobby, but again it's up to the player if you want to modify things but it's more than good enough for me quality wise. Very happy with this Grote and even surprised by the details of quality, looks and features. ... show more

  • Beautiful Well-Built Super Playable
Color: Purple
I love these Grote guitars. The value is hard to beat, for sure. However, the best part for me is these are truly nice guitars. The finish is beautiful. The electronics just work. The pickups sound great. The neck is comfortable. The frets are nicely finished (smooth and polished surfaces, no sharp edges). The tuning machines are stable. The inlays are attractive and smooth. I've been playing guitar on and off for 30+ years. I'm thrilled, absolutely thrilled, to have these guitars. I bought the blue ES-335 first. I was so impressed I bought the purple Les Paul as soon as they were in stock. They are playable out of the box (after tuning, of course). They come with decent enough 10's already installed. The strings have D'Addario color coded ball ends, but I'm not convinced they are actual D'Addarios. The dye color isn't quite right. Regardless, they are serviceable strings. The action comes a little high for my preference. The neck had too much relief by the time it got to me. A simple careful truss rod adjustment was all it took. Intonation was pretty close, too. I figure they leave the factory with high action in order to allow for wood movement and have it still be playable between the plant in China and whenever/wherever it gets to the customer. Just think, it was built in China a few months ago (with nice materials and great attention to detail - not a gripe, just an observation about location). It gets packaged, makes an ocean voyage on a container ship, arrives on US shores, makes its way to a seller by train/truck, and then gets shipped to me via Amazon (planes and trucks). The guitar experienced lots of temperature and humidity situations and it _still_ arrives payable. It's well packaged in a heavy cardboard box inside its gig bag, surrounded by a reasonable amount of styrofoam. If you know how to do a basic setup - neck relief, bridge height, intonation - you can dial in a nicely shredable 4/64ths on the base and .005 neck relief at the 7th, though normal temperature/humidity fluctuations will mean you're chasing that a lot. Set it up with 6/64ths on the bass and maybe .008 neck relief and you can probably let out sit on a stand all year without fret buzz and without any notes fretting out due to low action. The blue 335 has what I believe to be a graphic of flame maple. The grain is just a bit too big, more like a tiger stripe, and it doesn't look quite right up close. From 10 feet away, though, it's fine. The purple LP, well, it's hard to tell. Maybe it's a graphic. Maybe it's a maple top. I can't tell up close, and I definitely can't tell from a few feet away. Which means it's pretty ducking nice. The Amazon product description for the LP indicate "single coil" pickups, which is incorrect. They are definitely humbuckers (which is what I wanted anyway). My LP does _not_ have coil split push/pull pots, but my 335 does. I believe Grote sells a different LP model _with_ coil splits. All things considered, I'd buy them again. I'll probably buy more in the future. ... show more

  • Beautiful
Color: TS
The Guitar Solid Body Electric Guitar with Gigbag LPYS-006 (TS) looks absolutely beautiful. I could not find a flaw in appearance. Its a two piece of Mahogany wood body, the neck and head also Mahogany. Fret board is Rosewood, very nice. Tuners work nicely, I wouldn't replace them they hold tune well. The strings not great, I replaced. The Nut appears to be Bone as I see grain lines in the side under direct sunlight. There is absolutely no fret bite at all, however the set-up was not so great. The neck had a bulge upwards in the middle as the truss rod adjustment was incorrect as well as string height to high. I removed the strings, adjusted the truss rod to where the neck was straight and installed new strings,(10s) Putting some string tension little by little adjusted the truss rod slightly. When I sight down the neck with strings tuned it looks very straight. Then lowered the saddle and string height. .060 height on the 1st and .065 on the 6th string. The two bridge post were loose but tightened up fine. Saddle post were tight but I lowered the action. The intonation on 6,5 &4 were close but the intonation on 3,2 &1 were quite far off, all needed adjustment but they came in nicely. The fret work was all flat and straight, once I straightened out the neck. Pick-ups sound pretty good to me and not microphonic. The pots or adjustment knobs seem to have a decent range, I am leaving them. The top of the guitars grain appears to be a high quality graphic print on a substrate and the same clear finish applied over it as the rest of the entire guitar, but it looks great. The grain pattern is 100% identical to the the ad photo. I lowered one star for for overall performance and one star for beginners as the factory set-up was poor and a beginner may of had issues playing it as it was. THIS Guitar has good bones!! and nothing other than the strings were replaced. It's a lot of guitar for the money!!! ... show more

  • Crazy to be so affordable !!!
Color: VS
I have a Les Paul Standard (1989 ) and this guitar is a crazy good replica. The Les Paul has mahogany body and neck with a maple top. The Grote has the same body and neck but with a mahogany top. This is in the ballpark of the Gibson SG which was all mahogany as well. Details : Exceptional fretwork. Smooth with finished edges. String spacing is perfect. Action is easily adjusted. Straight neck. Great tone and sustain. Pickups are a 7 on a 10 scale, but when I crank up my Fender Blues IV amp it blows the curtains around. Great, great value !!! I got the blue one and it is BEAUTIFUL ! ... show more
