  • Great Approach To Training Body, Mind and Spirit
I've been waiting to write these comments on Kaiser Johnson's new book for a few weeks. I started, and then began realizing that there's a lot more to this book; and that it needed a closer look. Kaiser Johnson has penned an important work here. There are many fitness books, but none so far written by a professional actor (Unplanned and other roles) pointing out the importance of striking a balance between going full in for physical conditioning, and living a committed Christian lifestyle. And, this from a young successful movie actor who eschews the Hollywood glam culture for a life of sacrafice and discipline. Nice. I read this book from the perspective of being a lifelong martial artist who has just entered his 60s. In spite of continued training over the years, in the past decade and after surgery I've been "enjoying" a few extra lbs that absolutely need to go. The author has extensive experience in lots of training regimens and his ideas presented flow from that rich history. Accordingly, this is a manual for continued longer term reflection; not just a read it and put it down book. This book exhorts me (an old dog) to begin my conditioning regimen anew. As a result, I am about a week into the 90-day challenge that Mr. Johnson has laid at my feet. Some weight off already, and a renewed enthusiasm for training. Good. Having been around conditioning and training circles for decades, I tend to approach new books with the concept that if I can get even one new idea from a book then it's a win. This book actually has a bunch of new angles and suggestions; shared by somebody who walks the walk both physically and spiritually. Top notch stuff! Highly recommended! • Sport & Spirituality: Mutually Reinforcing (not mutually exclusive)
This was a fantastic book and one I couldn't put down.. because it was at once easy-to-read, relatable, immediately practical, and insightful. You might find books on spirituality and faith and you might find books on fitness. It's a rare find to stumble across one like Grit & Glory, that weaves the two in such a well-knit way as to be holistic. In a society that too often compartmentalizes and fragments everything, Grit & Glory is a must-read that is integrative, inspiring, and most importantly: incarnational. ... show more

  • Informational and inspirational !
I bought this book through the recommendation of a friend and I am so glad I did! The book is very clear and concise. Kaiser is pretty well known in the fitness community and the Christian community as well, so for him to combine his two biggest passions makes complete sense. I don't consider myself too religious, but I still found great value in his outlook on life and fitness. Very informational and inspiring. I highly recommend this to anyone who is into fitness and/or needs some motivation/inspiration. ... show more

  • Easy to follow for everyone.
So I am not a fitness freak by any stretch. I'm active and play sports but don't typically work out. That being said, Kaiser is a great teacher in this book and breaks things down very well. If you're a beginner, you're not going to be left behind (especially because the Rapture isn't really going to happen). A lot of Catholic men out there are prepping for Exodus 90. They should all use this book as a guide for the working out aspect of it. ... show more

  • Outstanding and worthwhile book and program!
WOW. We really can't say enough good things about Kaiser's book. I purchased this as part of a Father's Day's gift for my husband. A great deal of enthusiasm and effort obviously went into this program, as well as the writing. There are no "vague" directions here, nor halfhearted-attempts to tie in the importance of one's faith. Rather, this is ALL practical advice and precise instruction for both the spiritual and the physical elements of a routine that encompasses body, mind, and soul. A truly well-done book that anyone - and most certainly men - would feel encouraged by. Highly recommend. ... show more

I like all the connections made from the focus of his religious beliefs to using it to help your body. No matter what your religion having solid thoughts on what you believe in and and how you use it to focus on making yourself healthier body wise and for your soul, its a good read.

  • Practical and Christ-centered Guide for Caring for your Body
I picked up this book thinking that I it would be a quick read that might give me a few good ideas to implement into my weekly routines. Instead I got a book that challenged the way that I thought about how a Christian man must attack the modern world. Kaiser's insights into the connection of the body and soul shed real light into how we as Christians must be focused on caring for every gift that God has given us. After convincing me of this point, he broke down how I can care for myself better into bite-size practical tips, covering everything from sleep to clever and challenging exercise regimens. I am very glad that I read this book, and I think that anyone who does will benefit from it. ... show more

  • You haven't read a book like this before. It's great, if I do say so myself. And I do.
"I find no reason not to appreciate a good work, even if it has the accident of being written by me." - Myself. This is a good book. I happen to have written it. But it's a good book nonetheless. If you want to live with a body and soul more united, more integrated, read this book. If you love fitness, but you're "spiritual, not religious," read this book. If you like God and stuff but say, "It is the spirit that gives life, the flesh is of no avail," to justify avoiding the gym and clean eating as though they were the ten plagues, read this book. If you just wonder what faith and fitness could possibly have to do with each other, read this book. Hmm... I guess in general, read this book. I promise you haven't read one like it. ... show more
