On the USB end of the cable there is a wide area of plastic that prevented me from pushing it all the way in at the USB port. With my handi grinder the wide end became a little smaller and then it worked just fine.

I purchased this as a method to talk to an Icom IC-2300H I had picked up a few months ago at a swap meet. I had another cable that I thought would work, and it did not. Did some research on the topic and found out that the Icom's are very picky about the chipset in the comm cables. If its not a Prolific cable, it will give errors and not communicate. Found out my previous cable had an FTDI chipset, and it was not communicating with the radio, so this adds up. This one has the prolific chipset, and the drivers I downloaded of the Prolific website work and auto-linked to the cable. Chirp can find the radio and can upload and download no problem at all. Tried on 2 different computers and different operating systems, one is windows 10 pro, the other was Linex. Could not get Chirp to find the radio or talk to it at all. I got the drivers to install on win 10 pro, but that is all it will do. The included software does not include Icom. I bought this just to program my Icom 2730a. From doing some more research it looks like the cable should have 3 wires, one for tx, one for rx, and one for ground. This cable only has 2 wires, one on tx and one on ground. I don't see anyway for it to work without the third wire for rx. ... show more

Bought this to program my IC-208H using CHIRP and it worked perfectly. Running windows 11 and had no problems. Driver installed on its own and was truly plug and play. The only thing I had to do is change the comport to something lower because it went to a port outside the range I wanted to use. So far so go, and I would recommend this cable. Packaged well.
