Excellent product for cutting styrofoam.
Looking for a tool to cut through foam quickly, easily and mess-free? This is tge product for you! After using this product for only an hour, I'm ready to give it 10 out of 5 stars. I make insulated beds for the stray cats that stay on my property out of styrofoam coolers, so they have a place to sle
ep and stay warm in the winter. I used to use a utility knife to cut the foam and it got the job done, but it left a mess to clean up after. Not sure why it took me so long to look into a specific tool to use for this job, but I found it with the GOCHANGE Foam Cutter. This foam cutter gets the job I need done in a fraction of the time it took to cut with a utility knife, with zero mess to clean up afterwards! You get three types of cutting tools - two thicker pen-type cutters (short and long) and a bow that uses much thinner wire as the pens, with a spool of extra wire you can use to replace as needed. Simply choose your cutter, snap it into the handle, switch the tool on, wait 10 seconds or less for the pen or wire to heat up, and start cutting. The tool heats up the styrofoam as you move the tool through it effortlessly, no small bits of foam are left behind, and the cut surface is smooth and clean. It's really that simple! The hardest part of using this tool is having a steady hand to make accurate, straight cuts, but that is not a fault of the tool at all! I really wish I would have thought to look for something like this sooner. I purchased this at retail for $30 (at the time of this writing it is 10% off), and it was well worth the price for the convenience, ease-of-use and all the parts included with the kit. Another convenient use for this product I found - if you have foam that has been cut and left a rough edge that continues to shed pieces of foam, you can use this tool to "cauterize" the area - either shave a little bit of the jagged edge off or use the tool to burn the area, and it will stop the shedding of loose pieces of foam. Another reviewer mentioned about fumes given off from the heat and I will agree that this should be used in a well-ventilated area, even wearing a face mask to prevent breathing in any fumes is a good idea. Really the only time I encountered the tool giving off any kind of fumes is when it is turned on and heats up, if there is any kind of residue left on the pen or wire from previous use. The manual says to wipe the tool off with a wet sponge after it has been turned off and cooled down to remove any blackened burnt-on foam; I found this method to be completely ineffective, as once you turn the tool off and it cools down any material burnt on the tool it will not come off easily once it has cooled. I used a dampened paper towel to quickly wipe the tool while it is still on - this was much more effective. If you are going to do this, make sure you use enough paper towel so that you will not burn your fingers, and make sure it is damp!

Slices through the foam like a hot knife through butter. Literally. Leaves a very clean cut on the foam. I used this to shape cutouts for my dji action 3 inside this case I have. I also shaped it to fit the battery case, tripod handle and dji mic. Looks good and fits snugly.

Complements a carving knife
The tools work as expected; so the home carving knife is still an essential tool as noted by Charlie on his blog (Chadwick Model Railway). The GoChange tool lacks the length and firmness to complete many wide cuts. But to be clear, the tool works very well on short segments where the tool's end is al
ways visible. It is not a precision tool, so plaster of Paris or sculpamold is essential for final shaping. The shorter wand was used to cauterize edges of foam insulation with ragged edges that resulted from poor cuts with an X-acto blade.

I had never worked with foam before and was using an exacto and those types of tools, then I saw someone using one of these. wow. this is great! It has 3 heads, though I mostly use the wire one. It heats up faster than you can spit on it and it cuts through everything like butter. I wouldn't go all O
bi-One and stick the straight one in the foam...well unless you want...haha. I did. Anyways, Make sure you do wipe these off after cutting as you can get some buildup.

I used this for making a foam background in a gecko terrarium, and was so much faster than using a razor blade. Instantly got when using the wire.

***update: their customer service reached out and was eager to help and make it right. They made an electrical upgrade to the model I originally had (purchased in July 2023) and offered to replace my model with the new one at no extra charge. While I stand by my original review below, I also think th
at it’s worth trying out incase it may work for you. With their exceptional customer service it’s a low risk purchase. Original review: I am days shy of the return window, or else I would 100% send this back. While it does heat up quickly, it is not effective in cutting foam! It partially burned through the foam, creating an awful lingering smell the whole time. It gets really hot and looks burnt after being on for less than 5 five minutes. This tool unfortunately did not get the job done at all.

Love the fact that this goes through styrofoam very easily. It does take some getting used to for a really smooth cut because it works so quickly. No temperature settings, which would be nice for beginners. Love the accessories that came with it.

I’ve been crafting and cutting styrofoam for years and I’ve somehow just discovered this amazing little tool that makes cutting styrofoam easier than cutting butter! Forget knives, this is my go to too for styrofoam from now on! (So far, I’ve used it to cut blocks and foam core mounting sheets - AMAZ
ING!)

Cuts like butter

This set was a little low powered for my application of cutting 1' blocks of foam. The hot wire was able to do the job if I went slowly and rotated the block instead of slicing the block in one pass. Luckily I only had to make a few cuts. For smaller jobs this set would work great.

The wire cuts like butter! The rod doesn't slice quite as smoothly, but it cuts pretty well.
