  • Ideal Wheel Repair
What a great set up for easy touch up work! I curbed a wheel, just on one area of of the gloss black accent trim, on the outer edge of the rim. The rash (from scraping a concrete parking post -- knew it would happen eventually, in the very tight confines of my apartment building garage) was on about a six inch area, and unfortunately removed paint as well as scuffing beneath. This came with everything needed for a very quick and painless cover up of the damages. The white "smoothing" tip actually took out the worst of the ravages to the metal. It's not of any kind of professional grade to smooth out such damage completely, of course, but it smoothed the gouging enough to make it at least a little less noticeable, plus cleaned up the edges of the scraped area, prepping the spot nicely to accept the paint job. I finished with some sanding of my own, prior to painting, but could not get aggressive at all to really flatten the area since it would have meant removing more paint at the edge of the wheel. The paint itself was terrific. For the larger area, I used the pen tip, briefly, but I agree with all those who said it does not have a decent rate of flow control. It lays down a large amount and it's almost impossible to regulate a difference in the paint output by using pressure differences. It's kind of nothing, nothing, then OH WOW here comes the paint. I did some practice on a piece of cardboard first, to get the idea of how the tip worked, and knew it would only be usable on the largest part of the scrape, letting some paint flow, then using the tip to kind of pull it along as best as possible for more detailed coverage. So, thankfully, it comes with a brush as well, a good one for this type of job, that is kind of like a bit bigger version of what used to come with Liquid Paper, or White Out, if they even still make that stuff, where one could paint over text mistakes on paper -- remember those days? Ha, we don't hand write or type anything anymore, so the reference might be a pointless one, so maybe just think of a brush that comes with nail polish, if you've seen that, and I guess that could be a similar comparison as well. The brush was easy to use -- dip it into the paint reservoir, and just paint what you want. It was good both for larger spots and for detail work, but be aware the paint dries pretty quickly. It is thin, so work with it fast for coverage, getting it where you want it, before it loses its liquidity on the brush. You can always dip back and apply more, obviously, and, overall, I found it easy to apply equal layering so the final look was consistent in color and appearance. I did not remove the wheel to do this, and I had no issues with the paint running anywhere although I would say if too much was applied, at an angle, I could see that it could cause drips or runs, so it takes a careful hand. As mentioned, it dries quickly, and this was even on a humid day with rain pending, and within a half hour it was ready for the clear coat. Note that the clear coat is in the base of the "pen" (as shown in a diagram on the side of the box) so be sure the pen is upright (white smoothing tip pointed upward) when you remove the brush applicator from the clear coat reservoir (the little gray tub at the bottom) or else you'll have clear coat everywhere. The applicator itself is a small wedge shaped sponge, and I found it idea for applying the thicker clear coat and, like the paint brush, it worked both for larger and smaller areas of coverage. Overall, I think this is a terrific design. They've packed multiple tools, plus the paint itself, and clear coat, all into a single unit, and it's quite clever, and extremely convenient. It's a small amount of product, of course, so keep in mind the size of the touch up you need to do, but, for the edge area of my wheel (damage, as I say, was about six inches' worth) it was more than plenty, with lots leftover. The final result, from even a foot away, is phenomenal -- the damage is now invisible, and the wheel looks good as new. Up close, it's even hard to tell until you actually feel the metal to find the area, and then of course, if inspected a few inches away, the repair can be spotted, but sixteen bucks was a lot cheaper than having to shell out a few hundred for another wheel. This kit might not be the solution for everyone, but, for my need, this was perfect, and I couldn't be more pleased. Thanks for reading -- I hope this has been helpful! ... show more

  • Definitely worth it
Look there’s no way to make this product look right. The pen tip is hard to get working and then it dumps, Fingernail brush works like a fingernail brush. The paint is not particularly self-leveling, but it does dry incredibly fast. The bottom line is you’re not going to get a spray paint finish with a brush, However, I still recommend the product, because Whether you have the car professionally painted in the future or just drive it as is, The mess I made is no worse than the scratch that was there before, It’s still less noticeable, And most importantly, after using the abrasive tip, I’m confident my car won’t rust a hole in it, And regardless of what the professional Autobody shop might tell you, They’re going to have to sand the whole thing. And you’re gonna save money if they’re not welding in a patch. ... show more

  • This stuff works awesome!
I have a 2020 Colorado that is black and it got some pretty gnarly scratches from a supermarket parking lot. I ordered this pen and applied it and unless I am right up close I cant even tell it was scratched. Exact match on the color.
