    • Buyer beware
Okay, my husband and I are NOT diabetic, we work at our health and feel knowing our blood sugar levels are an important part of that effort. We were_ using a TrueTest monitor with TrueTrack test strips. We can no longer get the test strips so we purchased this new monitor and the test strips that go with it. The monitor came quickly - w/my subscribe and save items, as did the extra test strips we purchased even though the monitor came with 100! All in all it looked like a good deal. Then we tested our blood after washing our hands and using both the old and the new monitor. The old monitor first gave a reading for my husband of 88 (before breakfast) and the new one - from same_ drop of blood read 109! I then tested one drop of my blood in both monitors and with the old (TrueTest) monitor had a reading of 93, and with the new one 103! I asked my husband to repeat the test and this time, he also got a 10 point difference in his readings on the same drop of blood. We have decided to return these items. ... show more

    • Seems like a good meter kit with affordable test strips
I looked for this Glucoracy meter specifically after I discovered how much cheaper the test strips are testing blood sugar than practically any other meters readily available. What I have found is that the test strips for this glucose meter (at the time of this writing) is only about .13 cent each, which is approximately .07 cents less than the next least expensive testing strips available. Keep in mind that this review is based solely on my personal experience. Here are some of the pros and cons in my opinion. I like the feel of the meter as it has a nice weight to it. The meter kit comes with lancets, a nice lancing device, 100 glucose testing strips and a very nice case. I like that the meter uses standard AAA batteries. Most other meters that I have, use the flat coin looking batteries. The reason that I like that this meter uses AAA batteries is that they are easier to find in most stores and usually less expensive. A con of this meter and kit is that the LCD screen seems to fade especially at certain angles. Also, this is not one of the common meters where you can find in most pharmacies or superstores, which means you have to order the test strips to make sure that you have a good supply always available. While I like the fact that the meter uses standard AAA batteries, some may prefer the button cell, or coin style battery meters. I would also like to comment about the customer service that I had received from the company. I had a problem with my first meter and emailed them about it. They responded fairly quickly and initially walked me through the correct way to use the meter, which I was already doing. After my reply, they responded very professionally and quickly resolved the issue. What I usually do when I get a new meter is to test the accuracy of the kit by comparing the results with several other meters that I have on hand. So far, this readings on this meter have been comparable to the others. There was a few times that the meters were about 10 mg/dL differential from each other. I then had someone test the meters several times using their CGM. Sometimes this Glucoracy meter kit was closer to the CGM reading and other times the other meters were closer. Saying that, I do retest if I feel that there is a strange or inaccurate reading. Since this meter is fairly new and the strips are inexpensive, I will continue to test it against my other meters until I feel really confident with its accuracy. ... show more

Derek, my last physical, my doctor flagged that my glucose level was very high. Not diabetic yet but en route. Since I’m not diabetic, insurance won’t cover glucose measurement devices, so I wanted to buy something inexpensive so I could monitor myself. This one is perfect.
