  • A great guitar. But you will have to set-up!
This Glen Burton Chicago guitar is very nice the finish is nice. The split blocks on the fretboard are nice. The trapeze tailpiece is cheap but functional. The machine heads are also cheap but functional I'm going to put lock tuners anyway. The nut is plastic and really low quality it's cut right but I'm replacing that with a graphtec nut. the pickup sound okay. The Binding around the fretboard is atrocious with chips dings I did some sanding it's smoother and workable now from a distance you can't see it but up close you can see the defect. That said I like the guitar I'm keeping the guitar, I'm going to do some work on it I put lemon oil to the neck fretboard. the neck feels nice to play it's comfortable on your lap well balanced. Hey its a copy of a Gibson Es-175 for $200.00 so if you don't mind and are capable of doing some work on this jazz guitar? I say go for it buy it. 👍 Update: I have replaced the nut with a graphtech, and I put "musically" locking tuners on her. And the change is spectacular! I've turned it into an awesome guitar. :-) ... show more

  • Great Deal For $200
First, the good news, this guitar looks fantastic. Fit and finish are great. It plays great, neck is straight and comfortable. It sounds pretty good. Not great but good. It needed a fret dressing, intonation, lubrication for the nut and oil for the fret board. Simple enough, no big deal. Now, the bad news. On the treble side of the fretboard there are chatter marks from either a dull blade or inattentive worker. There are chips in the binding and the fretboard. Very small but there. Far away you cannot tell. Up close it looks like brown paint on the binding. There were also dimples in the bridge pickup cover. Looks like something fell or pushed against it hard enough to create the marks. It is hard to see straight on but in angled light they are visible. All in all I am happy. Noone will ever notice the fretboard or the pick up. It came with a very thin gigbag and a very small practice amp. It feels and plays better than some guitars I've spent $300-400 on. With these budget guitars QC is hit or miss. If you don't mind a few imperfections, this guitar is for you. If your nit-picky and expect a Gretsch or Gibson for $200 you better pass. ... show more

  • for the money this guitar is rock solid
I was prepared to spend hours setting this guitar up to be playable. I replaced strings immediately and prepared to adjust bridge for high and low spots. This guitar was dead on and sounds really good. Better pickups would make a world of difference but for now this is a very welcome addition to collection. ... show more

  • Poor detail in craftsmanship
The craftsmanship was disappointing & attention to detail was a letdown. Regardless of the value of the "deal" I've not come across an affordable instrument w/as much "character" in reportedly new condition. The fret board of the guitar I received came dry w/multiple chips & scratches; uneven color & stains; the neck had rough/sharp edges & frets; there was visible glue on the nut; there were unsharp purfling lines that bled into the wood grain all around the body. I'd expect an item described as "new" to be unquestionably up to par w/any other finished product from a brand w/such a positive & rich history. I returned the guitar. ... show more

  • it's a Real Hollow Body!
I admit I am a guitar junkie. I am also a guitar hack. I play just for self satisfaction. I don't gig or anything I just enjoy playing. As such I don't need really expensive guitars. Just good playing guitars. And this one is. Is the finish "Perfect"? Meh. Is the neck smooth? YES. Are the fret clean and smooth? Yes. Fretboard? A little dry but that can be dealt with. Controls? Ok, not the best but remember this guitar is less than $200 and a true hollow body. No 2x4 inside so it is very light. If you are looking for a guitar to practice on haul around in the back of your car/truck and notworry too much this is one to buy. The only bad thing? I had to vacuum it out! Had lots of sawdust in it! Lol ... show more

  • Glen Burton GE775-CHIC-NT"Chicago" Hollowbody Electric Guitar, Natural is a really nice deal.
Lotta bang for your buck. A true hollow body guitar. The craftsman ship was very good on this, but the cleanup of excess glue and and a few touch ups I had to do. Nothing major just cleanup. Great fixed bridge that I love. All in all a killer guitar for the buck.

  • Damage on the fretboard side trimming.
I've bought cheaper guitars with finer quality. Either this was a used guitar or some pretty poor craftsmanship. A $200.00 instrument is expected to come in better condition. Having read the reviews taking note of the similar kinds of defects others noted, there were some good reviews. I took a chance. I can fix the problem but as listed as a NEW guitar, there shouldn't have been any flaws in my opinion. This damage is not as result of shipping. Otherwise it's an attractive instrument. It came with a soft gig bag cover, strap, plug in amp cord, a pick, & in a single box that looked like it took a beating during shipping. Extra strings too. The switch could be tighter. All knobs worked. Has some weight to it. Otherwise compared to similar guitars like it, the price was acceptable even so. Price comparison wise other jazz guitars were higher in $$$. I am able to make the required adjustments & am glad that's all that needs done. Looks like someone took a scrapper all along both fret board sides to trim off the fret edges taking the plastic edging with it. Should've been buffed out for as near perfect a delivery. Came quickly. Plays well. I do like it. ... show more

  • I got a bad one
The fretboard had deep scratches/gouges and there was bad damage to the neck. I never actually looked at the whole guitar. Sent back the next day for a refund. Decided not to take a chance on another one.
