  • Great product that made a big job so much easier!
Size: Glass Cutting Oil NEW
We bought this because we are building partial walls out of cut bottles. And boy-oh-boy did we need to find an easier way! This little unit works exactly as advertised. Keep in mind that it WILL NOT cut the bottle all the way thru… it’s not supposed to and that expectation is totally unrealistic. It simply scores the glass. We have cut everything from wine bottles to beer bottles to Jarrito bottles and everything in between. If the glass is smooth and not ribbed, it’s going to work. While it’s easy to use… you have to follow the instructions and be patient with the process. Any failures is not the fault of the unit itself, it’s simply the luck of the draw. Not every bottle is going to cut perfectly. There are a lot of variables…. Including the thickness of the bottle. We had been cutting bottle after bottle all day with a lot of success and then tried a Bud Platinum bottle (for that beautiful blue glass) and it shattered almost immediately. It was MUCH thinner than the others and our usual amount of pressure was too much. So we adjusted our technique for different types and have now had great success with the Bud, as well. TECHNIQUE FOR SUCCESS: We found that getting the label and all of the adhesive off first is crucial. You don’t want to dull the blade or have the blade press the adhesive into the exact spot you expect to cut cleanly. Soak the bottles in soapy water, the labels will slide right off. Then we sprayed a Dawn/rubbing alcohol/water spray and used a wire brush or other scrubber, steel wool, etc to get that adhesive. SOAKING in soapy water was way more effective (and cheaper) than Goo-b-gone and all that other stuff. Now you’re ready to use the cutter. Be firm but not crazy. Don’t monkey the heck out of it. Pay attention to where you start the scoring line so you can join it perfectly. DO NOT go around and around… one time only. It won’t look like much but it is enough. Once scored, we would spin the bottle in a pot of VERY HOT BUT NOT BOILING water, heat it up, pull it out, set the bottle sideways in a frying pan with the neck raised on the edge of the pan and slowly spin it while holding an ice cube on the score mark. Repeat as needed: Heat, ice, heat, ice. Sometimes it releases immediately and sometimes it takes a few rotations. But it works. We have been able to cut over 100 bottles so far and have not even changed the blade yet. Well worth the money! The design is simple and effective. It’s tedious work but this unit helps SO MUCH! Thank you! ... show more

  • Good for beginners, but not enough on its own
Size: Glass Bottle Cutter
I bought this to cut wine bottles into drinking glasses. It scores bottles consistently and is easy to use, especially for standard wine bottles. That said, the cut edge is very sharp and still requires grinding and sanding if you want a drink-safe rim. This works well as a first step, but it’s not a complete solution by itself. If you’re planning to make usable glasses, pair this with a glass grinder and wet sanding. ... show more

  • More accurately a "glass scoring jig" than a cutter
Size: Glass Cutting Oil NEW
This tool functions great as a jig to score glass bottles - but do not expect to use this to create full cuts. I had previously been cutting bottles using a variable speed rotary tool with a high-speed diamond-edge cutter and was looking for a less messy way to make more straight and level cuts with a lower failure rate. Does this enable me to create a consistent, straight, level score around a bottle? Totally. However, there is a lot to do AFTER scoring the cut line that is fairly fastidious. If you're expecting to bust this out of its box and have a lovely cut bottle within a few minutes, you are going to be pretty frustrated. It works well for me and my needs, but make sure you read through reviews and the instructions before ordering to know what you're getting into. This is a fraction of the cost of my diamond-edge cutting wheel, which is awesome, and once it's set up and you're familiar with it you can really quickly score bottles with perfectly straight lines. However, you have to plan for the steps that come after the scoring part! ... show more

  • Great bottle cutter

  • Glass cutter, fun times…
Size: Glass Bottle Cutter
First impressions not so great. The accompanying gloves are child-size. In fairness, the seller refunded me $5.00, so this unit ends up being $5.00 more than advertised after purchase of replacement gloves. I cut my first bottle (see pic). It was a very simple process and actually quite fun! The sanding part was much more laborious than “advertised” requiring a good 30 minutes of sanding effort… and, still the glass isn’t nearly smooth enough. Also, I quickly discovered that the provided sandpaper grade is neither course enough for the rough cut, nor fine enough for the finish work. Considering the glass bottle holder is of good quality (and inexpensive), it is worth the $25 I spent ($30 after replacement gloves purchase). That said, know that you will have to invest more time and money than expected into the actual project—especially if you want something that you can actually/safely use to drink out of. I choose to frame the time/effort I spend with this as a mindfulness session. Because of the effort this vendor placed in reaching out for correcting this situation—I’m inclined to re-rate this product at 5-star. Now I just have to figure out how to smooth the glass quicker and with more ease for achieving a smoother surface. ... show more

  • ONLY for specific larger bottle sizes and feels very unstable.
Size: Glass Cutting Oil NEW
Nice glass cutter included with extra blades. As for the "contraption"... meh. Didn't work for me. I scored and scored, then did the hot/cold/hot/cold thing.. no luck. I can't seem to get ANY bottle cut using this thing. And it's clunky, inelegant, unstable, and inaccurate. In addition to a back side brace, it needs a top brace to keep any bottle solid and in place. The wheels are non-adjustable so the size is really only geared to very specific larger bottles (like wine bottles). Not at all easy to use. I would not purchase this again. The value for money was not great. It'll end up in a box in the garage, probably pretty soon. But I will use the glass oil and hand cutter that came with the contraption. ... show more

  • Just What I Needed
Size: Glass Cutting Oil NEW
I've used it on 4 bottles so far and did as it was supposed to. Good quality, and the instructions on how to cut and then separate were excellent and worked beautifully on my bottles.

  • Poor Base made of weak medium density fiber board, screws pulled out
Size: Glass Cutting Oil NEW
Used it on two bottles, the screws pulled out from the wood base that held the cutter in place, One of the rubber O-rings also broke on the first bottle. Returning this immediately.
