I used comments to determine what size to buy. I am 5’5” and 136 lbs. I found that the size medium fit well. I did hem up by 3 inches since I wanted to safely dance wearing this costume. This is a very lovely costume.

I'm always wary of online ordering for clothes since I am a little picky about the fit, but the price was so good it was worth a try. This is a really good costume especially for the money. I've attached the picture that comes in the packaging for another look at this dress. The purple is a ddep purple. I think the pictures look like it is slightly lighter but it is not really. Fabric is light to medium weight, a black slip underneath would be great, maybe not a necessity for some who may already wear their clothes/shirts a bit thin, but I would suggest the slip. Neckline is nice, a good dip but not too revealing. Great with the short statement piece necklace that I got (huge crescent moon and star). The collar stands up pretty nicely during my try-on, although the picture is a little deceptive. With the collar up and just turned slightly kind of like the picture, there is no way that you can wear a brimmed hat, too. The rim bumps into the collar. In fact, my slightly longer than shoulder-length hair was not sure where to lay with that collar either. I'm going to pull my hair up to work with that collar. The hat is not useable in my opinion. It is very floppy, the brim flops down in front of your eyes not just the top, it is creased from the packaging, does not fit the head very securely, and as I mentioned, the brim knocks into the collar. I'm going to be more of a sorceress than a witch anyway, so I will wear something other than the hat. I love the big purple lined sleeves! The silver piping is great. Dress is too long on me, will have to figure out shortening it (5'3", about size 12, got the XL size). I wish the belt wrapped all around the waist. The plain black of the dress with standup collar is kinda dull, could be better. (One picture in the ad shows belt in the back but that is not correct. The purple belting material is 2 pieces and they come together in the front with a pretty buckle. I pinned the buckle so it would stay where I wanted it to instead of slipping. So the belting can't be both in the front AND the back as the picture may lead you to believe.) Overall, I am pretty happy with this costume. (Added later to review: I got lots of compliments on it! I added a purple tulle "cape" to the back by stitching just a long cut piece of purple tulle, unfinished edges, that had metallic stars on it to the collar. I just gathered the top of the tulle piece, maybe it was a yard and a half long?, and stitched it on to the dress, easy. Loved that as an addition, got compliments, an improvement to the plain back of the dress. I wore a sort of choker necklace as my headpiece on my forehead.) ... show more

What a great buy! This costume is really one of the best I have bought and for a lot less money. I am 5’ 115 lbs, this fit perfectly. I did hem it up so I wouldn’t trip on it.
