  • M32Q: Great all-around bang for your buck.
Size: 32 inch Style: Flat|QHD|IPS Pattern: M Series Configuration: 165Hz
I am writing a review specific to the Gigabyte M32Q which I on sale for $399. The price is currently $359 and it retails for $499. At the $400 price point, this display is a great all-arounder. I needed a display that I could use for both work and gaming. Therefore, I wanted a responsive IPG display (for brightness and viewing angles for work), fast pixel response times (gaming), and variable refresh rate for gaming. I also wanted built-in speakers. This display ticks off all of those boxes. The Monitor also features a KVM (Keyboard, Video, and Mouse) switch. I have my work and gaming laptop connected to the monitor at the same time. My wireless keyboard and mouse dongle is connected to one of the Monitor's USB ports. I can quickly switch back and forth between my gaming and work laptops with a single touch of the KVM switch on the back of the monitor. Works flawlessly, and its extremely convenient. As an IPG panel monitor, it has a proper RGB sub-pixel layer. Text is sharp and crisp, or as sharp and as crisp as they can be on a 32" 2K display. The pixel density is equivalent to a 24" 1080P display. Some may prefer smaller pixels (27--28" screen size), but I prefer the 32" size for more immersive gaming. I don't mind the slight pixelation of small text. 2K is also sufficient for split screen work and I've had no issues adjusting to it. I had previously used a 4K60Hz display, and though I still prefer 4K for productivity, the loss of resolution has not reduced my work experience, while it has actually improved gaming. Though the display is not listed a G-Sync compatible, I am able to use G-Sync over DisplayPort. It works fine without any issues. It's been tested by Rtings dot com to be G-Sync compatible to below 20Hz. At very low frame rates, screen flickering will occur, but I have a 140W Laptop RTX 3070 which is more than enough to run all games in 2K at the highest setting without ever dipping below the display's G-Sync refresh rate minimum. One of the best features of this display is the extremely low levels of motion blur, ghosting, and overshoot. I ran the UFO tests. It's very responsive display. The smoothness, and crispness is noticeable when gaming as well. It's smoother than my laptops display (Alienware M15 R4 with 144Hz 3ms FHD Advanced Optimus G-Sync Display). It also is far superior to it in color gamut, brightness, and contrast. It's only disadvantage is its performance with G-Sync as the G-Sync internal display does not flicker down to 1hz unlike the M32Q. That said, under normal gaming conditions, if your GPU is capable enough, (desktop or laptop 3060 or higher), you will not see frame dips low enough while gaming for flickering to occur. IPS displays do not have the same low black level as VA displays, so if you are used to console gaming on a mid to high tier OLED or VA HDTV, you will notice that black levels are not as dark on this display than they are on the higher contrast panels. That's the limitation of IPS technology, unfortunately. Given that, the display shines in other ways that more than compensate for this limitation. It has a decently wide color gamut and gets decent SDR brightness. It's HDR capability, however, is a little lacking. Some content looks great, but the panel seems to have a slightly high lowest level of brightness in HDR mode which means that some HDR content, such as dark content uploaded by semi-professional Youtubers, may seem too dim on this display. Some scenes will lose detail in dark areas of the screen (black crush). On the other hand, despite its low brightness (only HDR400 certified), bright specular highlights are noticeably brighter than SDR, and some HDR content does look "nice" on the display. It's hit or miss, but given the price of the display, especially its sale price, I am satisfied. I would have paid a bit more for HDR600, but alas, they don't sell one at a decent price point. There is another limitation of the Monitor. I specifically wanted a Monitor with a DisplayPort 1.4 port. Though this Monitor is advertised here as having DP 1.4, Gigabyte's website lists it as DisplayPort 1.2. The user manual lists both 1.2 and 1.4 on different pages!! Regardless, it has features of DP 1.4 such as HDR compatibility. My laptop detects it as HDR capable, and HDR capable games offer me the option to switch to HDR mode. There is one caveat. True 10 Bit HDR is only available at full 2560 x 1440 resolution at 120Hz or lower. If you set the resolution to 144Hz, 165Hz or 170Hz with overdrive, colors are reduced to 8 Bit with dithering. Dithering is a technique to use noise (film grain-like effect) to reduce the appearance of color banding. Personally, I tried to detect the difference between HDR content at 10 bits and at 8 bits with dithering, and I couldn't tell. That said, when I am playing a game that will not exceed 120 FPS at ultra settings, I switch the monitor's refresh rate to 120Hz. When I need to use 165--170Hz for eSports titles, I'll switch back the higher refresh rate. I don't know if there even are any HDR capable eSports titles, but if they're not available now, they will be eventually. If you have a FreeSync or G-Sync GPU and are looking for a mid-priced gaming/productivity laptop, strongly consider the M32Q. If you have a desktop with an RTX 3080 or Radeon 6800 XT or greater, and you can afford it, consider the 4K 144Hz M32U. In my case, my GPU really can't handle 4K in high/ultra settings with newer titles, and I find that I strongly prefer a higher frame rate at 2K to 4K with a lower frame rate. Also, right now, the M32Q is selling for less than half the price of the M32U. You can buy 2 for less than the price of one M32U. Seems like a no-brainer to me. ... show more

  • Great monitor with a few caveats
Size: 43 inch Style: Flat|4K|VA Pattern: AORUS Configuration: 144Hz
I've had this monitor for 3 months now and I intentionally waited to write this review so I can give a more objective "long run" assessment of it. This is my daily monitor and I use my PC for everything (I own no Television, or other entertainment devices beyond my phone). My pc and monitor remain on 24/7 to give you an idea of the kind of usage my components get. I run the background you see in the picture with HWINFO64 and several other applications that stay in the same spots; so far I have experienced zero burn in. I received this monitor new without a single dead pixel and it still has none!! This AORUS FV43U monitor comes with the now typical small plastic tripod style legs which work well enough but clearly do not allow you to adjust for angle or height. I would prefer something more substantial and metal but the work. The monitor has fantastic color reproduction for the price and some of the most even blacks I've experienced with a TN panel. The one I received has very little backlight bleed as well. The monitor WILL RUN HOT if you run it at the stock brightness settings. It was at 50 brightness by default and I run it at 5! I also updated the firmware which was supposed to address excess heat. The process to update the firmware was intuitive and easy enough. HDR looks great on the monitor but unfortunately HDR implementation on Windows is horrendous. Namely a lot of monitor flashing when windows is flipping between SDR and HDR; which can happen in games (if another app is doing something in the background). I just turned HDR off and fine tuned my settings to most accurately reproduce the gamut. You need to run this monitor with BOTH the USB and Display/HDMI cables. I don't use the Aorus software but still had to run the USB for some of the monitors functionality. When I run the monitor @ 144hz text looks odd especially when scrolling. Setting it to 120hz makes the text look nice and even regardless of where it is on the display. I don't have to use cleartype or any other software corrections to make text bearable and I constantly read and write large bodies of text on it. I used this monitor for gaming a lot and I really enjoy it for this purpose. My previous monitor was 1440p and I am getting a kick out of 4k gaming and this monitor has a LOT of real estate. There are times in some games when I just stop and think "Wow! It just looks so gorgeous!". I have used it in gaming sessions in excess of 6+ hours without the slightest issue (knock on wood). Ghosting is minimal with a balanced overdrive setting and response time is totally acceptable. Again the blacks look great for a TN panel. This was a big purchase for me and I am on a fixed income. I did quite a bit of research and compared many, many monitors. I think the AORUS FV43U strikes the perfect balance between features and value. Most the other monitors @ this size cost more and are ultra wide monitors with abysmal pixel densities and native resolutions that are not supported by many games. For the same feature set in a 4k Samsung or LG you will be looking at spending 40% more. I am extremely happy with this purchase and hope to still be using this monitor for at least 4+ years. So far my customer experience has been a very positive one and I WILL update this review should any issues arise with this monitor. I would recommend the AORUS FV43U to anyone looking for a great monitor with a few caveats at an exceptional value. ... show more

  • Best 43" monitor you can get for your pc
Size: 43 inch Style: Flat|4K|VA Pattern: AORUS Configuration: 144Hz
I just got this new monitor via USPS. Might have been better if they used UPS I think. USPS did not deliver the monitor and made a electronic note that it did not fix in the mail box! So I went into town and picked it up. I plugged it in and fired up my pc. The pc recognized it on the display port and is running 144hz out the box. It is very bright. I had been using a 4k tv (43"). I noticed how the letters are so very clear as I am typing this. I opened up Cyberpunk 2077 and it is buttery smooth. No tearing. I'm using a 1080ti for my GPU. I was a little worried the GPU wouldn't keep up, but it is doing well with no stuttering. I notice the youtubers knock this monitor and say it is not the best, but for the money it is a great gaming monitor for 43". You cannot compare a 43" monitor to smaller monitor. If you are like me and using a 43" tv, then this is the monitor for you; unless you can burn over $2000.00 for something a little better. I knew I wouldn't like the legs that come with this monitor so I also got a stand (Perlesmith Model: PSTVS07). Note: I purchased this monitor under 700 dollars. Now it is $1078.00. ... show more
