  • pretty nice product overall
Color: Venetian Bronze Style: Mailbox Post
instructions are easy to read/ follow. total assembly time was approx. 45 mins. (counting trips to the shed for the right tools). i DID, however, find that i needed more tools than explained in instruction(s) guide as some of the screws/ nuts are in kinda' difficult places to reach (FYI). there are three (3) separate pieces that need to be attached to the post itself; the bracket that holds your mailbox, the top 'finial' piece, & the base plate upon which your mailbox will mount. all that said, once the fully assembled unit was placed over a 4'x4', pressure-treated post (cut to 48" in length & placed into a dug hole 18" deep & concreted in) it looks spectacular! i reattached a standard, USPS, metal mailbox (the old one - cleaned thoroughly & sanded down, then repainted w/ spray can) to the mailbox mount w/ four screws n' nuts on both sides. we're tickled w/ the upgrade & would recommend the Gibraltar 'Landover' for it's overall construction, relative ease of assembly, aesthetics, PRICE & utilitarian purposes. the post itself is aluminum (it therefore shouldn't rust). the mailbox mount is metal so i sprayed THAT piece w/ a once-over using a spray can of 'clear coat'... just b/c i'm neurotic. would i recommend? YES. is it a good value? YES. would i buy again? hopefully not as i'm optimistic that this sucker lasts a very long time (barring catastrophe, it likely should). FYI, regardless of your earthworks, you really should secure your bracing post into the ground w/ concrete (or that packet of foaming goo would work OK too) to insure that your investment is stable/ secure, etc. i allowed our 4'x4' wooden post to "set up" for 24 hrs. once it was level & plumb properly & that was more than sufficient. it's an attractive upgrade to our previous situation & really enhanced our little abode (neighbors have already complimented us). our previous set-up lasted 16 yrs. & it was the cheapest metal post (boring, pedestrian, &c.) i could find at our local H.D. store when i purchased it. the Gibraltar 'Landover' is a MAJOR upgrade from that ol' ugly thing!! cheers! ... show more

  • Previous reviews were not all good, but ordered anyway and love it.
Color: Venetian Bronze Style: Mailbox Post
Previous reviews mentioned problems with assembly, such as pre-drilled holes not lining up. However, this mailbox post seemed attractive, sturdy and a good value, so I ordered one thinking I'm fairly handy and can work around any problems. The product was packaged well and arrived in excellent condition. I set a wood 4x4 in concrete on Saturday, then assembled and installed the mailbox post over top of it on Sunday. I encountered no problems at all. All the parts were there, the instructions were excellent and the product went together without any problems. The mailbox post is exceptionally sturdy and has an excellent finish that appears will be quite durable. Considering the cheapness of many manufactured products today, this one appears to be designed and manufactured with pride. The only suggestion I can make is that the screws supplied to fasten the mailbox post to the wood 4x4 be color-matched to the post. All the other visible fasteners are color-matched, but for some reason these are not. I'll get some matching screws from the hardware store today. Even considering this minor issue, I'll rate this product 5 stars because everything else exceeded my expectations. ... show more

  • Nice post cover, good price, hardware issues
Color: Venetian Bronze Style: Mailbox Post
Quick comments, I hope it helps the next person: -use 54”H 4x4 post. Bury it 24” deep. I used quickrete cement for fast curing. It cures fast so work fast. -30” above ground will allow the mounting lag bolts to go thru the cover WITHOUT drilling thru your post. Any taller, and you will interfere with the mounting bolts for the horizontal arm. -you can use a post as tall as 50” above ground (74” total) BUT you will need to drill thru the post and it better be straight. I tried this first but I used a cordless drill and did not drill straight thru. If you have a drill press at home, this is the best approach since it adds structure at the horizon arm that holds your mailbox. I’m sure there’s a better method but I am an average DIY’er so I went with the shorter post. -I installed the post cover on the 4x4 before burying it in the ground. I have a plant bush in the way of the install so this was my preference. Also, I didn’t want to drill the post on a recently cured concrete. -biggest issue was the screws and bolts that came with the kit are not good quality, else I would’ve given this review 5 stars. I used Simpson wood screws to mount the cover AFTER I stripped the screws provided with the kit. -for reference I installed an Oasis 360 by Architectural Mailbox and it fit perfectly with the mounting kit provided with the post cover. -overall, I like the look a lot, it was easy to enough to install, and it was well priced. ... show more

  • Looks great.
Color: Black Style: Mailbox Post
I like how it looked after the install. What I didn't like we're the install instructions. They have you assemble the mailbox platform before installing it on the 4x4 post. There are two bolts that hold the platform on the post. When you slide it over the 4x4, the bolts prevent it from sliding all the way down. The directions do not address this. My solution was to trim the 4x4 down to the height of the bottom bolt. Then the metal post slides down to the correct position. It looks great. The instructions should be updated to address this problem. Tools required for update were, a skill saw set to the deepest depth, a tape measure and a square to mark the cut location with a pencil. Two cuts is all it takes. Once the metal pole is installed, be sure to install the anchor screws in the bottom to secure to the 4x4. ... show more

  • Good product strong support
Color: Venetian Bronze Style: Mailbox Post
I bought this post together with a large mailbox. They are matched perfectly. My mailbox and post (in 2 bags of cement mix) are standing firm and look great next to my Neightbor’s mailboxes
