So far it’s running well on the lowest speed for about a week. It came with a nice duct adapter and filter but I did not need those. It's perfect for the job I had at hand. I have a small area underneath my home I need to keep from freezing. Using it to push heat into that area. With the variable speed I can control the temp of that area without excessively robbing heat from the other area.

It's a common thing for hobbyists of various sorts to create fume exhaust fans from PC case fans. By packaging all of the parts together, it saves the trouble of gathering them and doing some tinkering yourself. Assembly is a slight mystery because both a metal grill and and a plastic dust filter are included, and the slim instruction sheet is not much help telling you what to do with them. Choose one or the other, not both. (For the benefit of others trying to figure it out.... if you want to use the plastic dust filter: (1) set the metal grill aside (not used), (2) take the dust filter apart, (3) one piece of the dust filter has screw holes, so assemble that with the fan and duct flange, (4) lay the foam dust filter on top, (5) push the other piece of the dust filter onto it (sort of presses into place; no screws). The dust filter is exactly that: it's just a piece of light foam. It's not heavy duty, and it's not an activated charcoal filter. I'm not sure it's worth even using it. Pay attention to the product photos. It wants to be used with a 3-inch duct tube to carry the fumes away. Part of the kit is a flange that the duct can attach to. But if you don't use a duct with this, you'll just be blowing unfiltered fumes from one part of your work area to another. An A/C power source and speed controller is included, which is nice. It connects to the fan with a barrel connector. It controls the fan speed by varying the voltage (not by PWM). Even at its lowest setting, it's kind of loud. At the fastest setting, it's really loud. So, as I said, this can save you some trouble compared to building a fume extractor yourself. However, if you did build one yourself, you would probably choose a larger fan so you could run it slower for less noise. ... show more
