If you're looking for a comfortable chair that fits into a small space that doesn't feel like assembling a tent, this is the only game in town. Construction: These things are solid. Bit of a downside - they do weigh 12 pounds each. This is not as heavy as it sounds. Upside is the solid feel you get sitting in them. Comfort: The chairs are really comfortable director's chairs. They are not a "lounger", but as a chair for a picnic or sporting event, these work great. I'm not sure I'd take them to the beach, they sit up too high and I'd be worried about getting sand in the moving parts. Setup/Crackdown: Time Me! It takes about 5 seconds to pull the chair out of the case, lock your foot under the bottom bars and pull up then pull out, then flip up the back. Crackdown is equally as quick. Things get a bit fussy when you need to put the chairs back in the case. About the case: As other reviewers have mentioned, the case is the weakest link here. On one of our cases, the mesh was delivered with holes in two places. Size: These things take up about the size of two or three rectangular pizza boxes. See Image, this is the front trunk of my 981 with the two pico chairs, a picnic backpack, a folding table *, and the box on top is the third chair, packed for return because of aforementioned issue with the case, so we actually had room for a couple of pizzas on top if we wanted. What could be better: 1. Fix the manufacturing issue with the mesh on the cases (you need the mesh to hang the case when the chairs are set up) 2. Add a handle to the top of the case 3. Provide a couple of straps are part of the case to secure gear to it (those elastics are nice, but won't hold much more than a magazine in place - we figured out we could put the table inside the flap of one of the cases to carry it. Recommendation: If you're short on space - there's really no other option (unless you feel like assembling a tent chair). Even if you're not short on space, these are great portable units. These chairs take a bit of practice in unfolding, but once mastered they are really great. Lightweight but sturdy and rust-proof. They fold up very compactly and are ideal for our boat.

GCI Outdoor continues to be the first company I turn to for camping furniture. The new Pico chair is well made, comfortable and relatively easy to transport, but I much prefer the original as it was smaller, lighter, just as sturdy, far less bulky. The original also had a briefcase style grab handle, the new one does not and it's sorely missed - I'm not a fan of shoulder straps and that's all you get with Pico II. The carrying bag is bulky, takes more time to put the chair in the bag than it does setting it up or tearing it down, but you have no choice and must use it. It's really a nuisance, and a rare surprise from GCI. 5 stars all around if it weren't for this. ... show more

Only thing I would say negative is, they are a bit heavy. But quality seems great, comfortable. we purchased them for the way it backs up so small. purchased two of them, fit in a small storage bin in our Class C RV.

I use mine for canoe camping, and van traveling. The carry case is excellent for camping, but otherwise a nuisance. The chair itself is very comfortable, and is roomy enough for me. There is a bit of a learning curve to opening and closing it, but once you get it, it's fine. I held off buying this for a long time, beacuse it seems very expensive for a folding outdoor chair. We got a pair of these for our camper van and they fit perfectly in the available storage behind the passenger seat. They're far more comfortable than the typical camp chairs and fold up more compactly. Build quality is excellent, and it comes with a nice travel bag. So... It is 'challenging' to open and close, but only at first. A little practice and it is a breeze. Trickiest bit is opening. Follow the directions and be sure you pull it all the way up before you spread it apart. Keep upward tension so the telescoping legs don't slide back down. You can't spread the seat if the legs aren't fully extended. Even with this I think they are easier to operate than the standard folding camp chairs and much easier to put in the bag. Comfort - That is such a personal thing it is hard to say for everyone. But do be advised that the seat height is fairly low so not great for anyone over about 6 feet or who has problems rising. No real place to rest your arms so that could be a negative if that is important to you. ... show more
