After 20 years with my last set I bit the bullet and bought new golf clubs (sticker shock). While being fitted I found the new 7 iron was 30 yards longer than my old one. (yeah!). However, that meant my known distances were all wrong, and before I went to the course and embarrassed myself worse than usual, I needed to 'distance' all my clubs. Enter the G80. I opted for it because it was both a launch monitor and a course GPS. Even though its launch monitor only gives speeds and distance that is all I really care about. I can see everything else (direction, side-spin) on the range, and I have no intention of using it to evaluate my swing. So I just returned from the driving range for its first use. It is quite accurate. I lasered the pins on the driving range and then compared the G80 to where my ball landed. If I was pin high the G80 showed the right distance. If I fell short it showed that also. However, you do have to hit the ball well to get an accurate measurement. On shots that I was way too thin (quasi worm burner) or badly mis-hit, the G80 showed the shot being a lot longer than it actually was. It is only measuring speeds. But when I hit the ball well, it was very accurate for distance. I hit about 80 shots on the range this morning and the G80 only missed reading one shot – from my driver off a tee. I think I had it teed too high since I was going to kill that one! I sliced the crap out of it – I never learn! My mission of mapping out my clubs was successful, so for me, the monitor served its purpose and was worth every penny. Now that I know it is accurate I will use it in my back yard with a net to try to gain shot consistency. I’m a happy camper already, and I haven’t even taken it to the course to try out the GPS yet. ... show more

Wow, the G80 is an amazing Golf GPS. It's game-changing to be able to get instant distances for pins, hazards, carries, etc. Additionally, the case and battery in this complete package are perfect. The only thing I would add is a magnet for the unit during play.

This is a great unit that is extremely easy to use. The only note I provide is that it just isn't bright enough to view easily in the bright South Florida sun. Otherwise, this is a really great piece of equipment to have at your disposal. I'm quite happy with it.

    • Great on course GPA. Launch monitor lacking

As a golf gps, it's as good as they come. It replaced my Garmin G8, which was also very capable. And cost a lot less. The G80's cost, for me, was justified by the extra launch monitor features. That part doesn't work well on mine. My 7-iron actual yardage is 150-155 based on course play and other GPS readings. The G80 launch monitor shows 112 yards carry. With roll adjusted to the unrealistic max, it gets to 135. Likewise, my 7 iron swing speed has been consistent at 83-88 in past couple of years. The G80 shows in the mid-50s. I have no way to know whether smash factor, tempo and ball speed are right on the G80 as I don't know those numbers. That said, the unit is great for the primary reason I bought it: On-course yardages on a large clear screen. It has some other decent features I rarely use, such as simulated play and "plays like" yardage. It's slick and easy to use. If I'd known the launch monitor functions were sketchy, I probably would've still bought the G80 but I might have waited for a good sale. ... show more

Love this nice light weight, multi-purpose, accurate golf device. I have never been a golfer who likes rangefinders or similar on the course gadgets. BUT, I practice in my garage on a regular range mat, hitting balls into a net backed by a tarp. Just completed my 4th virtual round at a 2 different local par 3s. What fun! Has a warm up, target practice, tempo trainer, virtual round and works perfect at my local course (actually 41k coures) as a radar device. I checked it with fellow golfers various devices and it is very accurate. I received my G80 a week ago, gave it a full charge and it’s presently at 57%! That’s shooting a 2 - 9 hole rounds on an executive course and practicing 6 out of 7 evenings. I highly recommend this gem! ... show more

This is a great little unit. I’ve used it twice in my backyard with my net. I was able to map all of my clubs. I love the fact that it displays club speed, ball speed, smash and swing timing. I’ve learned a lot about distance and club selection. I’ve play the distance game which was way easier after mapping my clubs. I also played a virtual round at my local club. This unit only account for distance and not the hook or slice. All my shots landed perfectly on the fairway...just like real life (not). That said, it was fun and does force you to switch between clubs which is good practice. Its been a fun way to kill time in quarantine. Can’t wait to try this out on the course. ... show more

Everything was as described, the protective case is great for keeping the GPS safe when not in use. The GPS itself is great, amazing accuracy and battery life. The extra functions on the GPS are an added bonus. I haven't used the portable battery pack yet but it looks as described. Would definitely recommend this GPS and the seller as a handwritten thank you note was included. That kind of personal touch doesn't go unnoticed. ... show more

Larger text on score screen. Only drawback is you can not review or edit score on device after round is completed. Ball distances seem accurate for any non professional golfer. Cart mount is not the best I modified my golf buddy mount to accept the cradle included with the cart mount so I can just clamp it to the cart windshield frame.
