  • BEAKIES!!!
As overpriced as GW products are in general, often you can find excellent deal in their base sets. Strictly from the perspective of getting four squads of marines in their OG, most iconic armor, terminators, an uber-landraider and a dreadnought, plus characters...this is an excellent value. Tie in the new ruleset and all the doo-dads that come in the box, and you can't go wrong with this. Something else that is convenient (though it's because of the time period of Horus Heresy, where chaos hasn't been melting DNA) is that unlike previous base sets, you don't have two factions in the box, often leaving you with a bunch of models you have little use for...you instead get vanilla models that can be painted up as different chapters, or all as one chapter. I can't think of many other instances where this could be the case, but I fully appreciate it. I haven't really looked at the rules yet except reading through the fluff, so I can't comment on how this differs from 40K (seriously, what version are they up to this week?). Summary: I started back in Rogue Trader days, where the beakies were space marines. To me, this is like a slice of warm apple pie and a cold cider, and I've held onto my OG models for longer than many GW players have been alive at this point. Finally having them get a high quality rework gives me the opportunity to retire the old blobby models and use them as veteran troops in 40k. ... show more

  • Best value!
Best value and selection to start an army (or two) The 30k rule book is nicer than the 10th edition 40k rulebook. Get the heavy weapons upgrades to turn the mkvi troops into various other types of squads.

  • Great value
Fantastic value for the price. You get enough for two small armies, or one larger one, a book and some gubbins to play the game. Still working through building and painting these a year later!

  • Cool game and models!
A great starter set to get into the HH! I'm not the biggest fan of Mk6 power armor. But the tanks and the value is there. The model's went together well!

  • My warhammer fanatic loves it!
My 13 year old has been wanting this to have a warhammer set for a LONG time and I finally purchased for christmas. He was very excited about receiving it. There is a TON of figures to assemble and he was a bit overwhelmed with it all at first.

  • You Now Have Everything You Need
Games Workshop really pulled no punches when it comes to this starter box for the Horus Heresy. Everything you need to play the game is included in the box, in addition to some really cool miniatures. You can make one big army of your chosen faction or a half loyalist half traitor force so you can have someone to play against. I really appreciate it including a lot of options in regards to weapon choices. Highly recommended! ... show more

  • Money well spent!
I was nervous at first when I saw other reviews of verified purchases of damaged product, luckily my fears were for naught. The box and everything in it came in perfect condition and definitely worth the money. This could have easily been priced at $400 or more but we got a steal of a price at $250. If you want my opinion it is a purchase you won’t regret, and after all the box art I’ve seen I’m going imperial fist this time around. All hail the imperium of man! ... show more
